Federal Hill

Federal Hill

About five miles from Johnston is Providence’s Federal Hill neighborhood, and if you’re looking for the closest dog park to Johnston, you can find it here! Dexter Dog Park, located within Dexter Training grounds, is a fenced-in, off-leash dog park where your pooch will have plenty of room to run around. Give your dog the chance to socialize with other canines; it’s important to his development. Dexter Dog Park doesn’t provide waste disposal bags, so make sure to bring along your own. Bring a ball or two and have a ball!

Hope

Hope

While quite a few neighborhoods in Johnston’s neighbor, Providence, have dog-friendly restaurants, Hope is full of them! If you’re hungry for something new and exciting, check out Chez Pascal! This French restaurant serves up delicious French classics alongside modern takes on French dishes. Bone Appetit! Your dog can join you on the patio, but outdoor seating is limited. If you’re feeling more in the mood for French fries than French cuisine, check out The Sandwich Hut, which dishes up delicious deli food. Your dog must be on a leash at all times, and good behavior is required.

Pond Street N

Pond Street N

Don’t let the fact that this dog park is located out of state fool you; it’s only a twenty-minute drive from Johnston, and your pup will definitely thank you for making the trip! Attleboro Dog Park is known for its size. There’s plenty of room for your pup to run around and get his exercise. There are two separate areas of this park, based on dog sizes, but many locals tend to let the dogs intermingle. Make sure to keep a close eye on your dog when this happens, just to be safe. Water and waste disposal bags aren’t provided, and you’ll need your dog’s license number to sign in. This is strictly enforced.

Lincoln Woods State Park

Lincoln Woods State Park

About twenty minutes from Johnston, you and your pup can have a great time exploring Lincoln Woods State Park. Located in Lincoln, this state park has plenty of trails you and your dog can explore. Make sure to stay off trails that are designated for only mountain bikers or horse riders, though. Your dog must be on a leash, one no longer than six feet, at all times, and although it might be tempting to let him run free, there is wildlife in this area. It’s best to just keep him nearby. Make sure to bring along water and waste disposal bags. You can also enjoy a picnic lunch at one of the shelters!

Slater Park

Slater Park

If your dog loves socializing, make sure to take him to Pawtucket Dog Park, which is just about twenty minutes up the road from Johnston. With separate areas for large and small dogs, your pooch can have the chance to interact with dogs he can safely play with, putting both you and him at ease. Water is provided to make sure your pawesome friend doesn’t get overheated while playing, but you’ll want to bring your own waste disposal bags. This is an off-leash dog park. Some breed restrictions apply; you can call the local parks and recreation department if you have any questions.
