Tucked in Cherokee County, South Carolina, you’ll find the proclaimed peach capital of South Carolina. A state already well known for its abundance of the sweet fruit, no one passes through Gaffney without noticing the giant peach-shaped water tower. There’s much more to this beautiful town than fruit, however! With its proximity to Spartanburg, it’s impossible to ignore the pawsitively fantastic dog-friendly activities you and your happy hound can indulge in.

If you’re looking to spend a busy day exploring, make your way to the Cowpens National Battleground. The site of frequent war re-enactments, there’s more to this Battleground than its violent history. There’s a two-mile historical trail that you and your pooch are free to peruse, and learn more about the local history. There are even additional wooded trails in the surrounding area. When you get tired and need a break, make your way back to the covered shelter and get out of that harsh sunlight. Your pup pal will thank you, especially if you bring some nice fresh water and treats along.

Your dog will be welcomed with smiling faces, and once you visit this historical location, it’s something you pawsitively won’t forget any time soon!

    #1 Downtown Spartanburg

If you’ve not had enough excitement from the Cowpens National Battleground, make your way to downtown Spartanburg. Among plenty of eateries, you’ll find Croft State Park, a hidden gem treasured by the community. Dogs are welcome in almost all outdoor facilities, but keep your pup calm and leashed at all times. Disruptive animals are asked to leave the park, but that’s to ensure the enjoyment of you and your perfect pup pal. With 7,000 acres to cover, you and your pup will have plenty of time to enjoy the sunny and breezy day. Be sure to bring water, doggy waste bags, and some treats to keep your rowdy Rover quiet if they get too excited. You don’t want to miss this location.

Serving the most delicious barbecue ribs in the county, Daddy Joe’s knows how to make good food, and they know how to do it right. Fortunately, dogs are welcome on the outdoor balcony. #4 Northeast Spartanburg

Part of the Edwin M Griffin Nature Preserve in Northeast Spartanburg, the Cottonwood Trail is a welcome reprieve from the chaos that can be Spartanburg. There can be too much of a good thing, of course, your dog knows that from last time they stole the whole box of treats. A stretch of land where you and your pup can truly be one with nature is just enough of a good thing, however. There are over five miles of trails at the preserve for you and your fur baby to explore, and as long as you bring enough drinking water, you’re sure to have a grrreat time.

    #5 Central Spartanburg

Sometimes, there’s just one place that exceeds all expectations. Everyone loves their furry friend and wants to see them spoiled and healthy. This is made a reality in Central Spartanburg, at a dog boutique known as the Paisley Paw. The only shop of its type in the area, the Paisley Paw offers designer collar and leash combos, adorable apparel for your regal Rover, and homemade treats! If that wasn’t enough, toss in the DIY Dog Spa with a number of luxurious washes, and you’ve got a place that can’t be beat. The only problem is dragging your dog out once you get them inside… that’s gonna be ruff.
