In 1889, Sharon, South Carolina came into existence. It was a town born of the rail line. The rail line offered many opportunities for travelers to come and explore the tiny city. The history of the city is showcased at the Museum of Western York. Outside the buildings, you can see the original tools that helped to shape the community. Inside, you will learn about the people that shaped the community into what it is today. They have a gift shop where you can buy handmade items crafted by the local artists. These include soaps, woven linens, and even art. All of these are made through local customs that have been handed down through the generations.

The Rainey House is another local favorite. It was restyled to what it is today in 1906. You can see the beauty of the land around it. Tours are by appointment only during the off-season.
