Congaree National Park
Experience South Carolina's great outdoors with Fido at the Congaree National Park! Free of charge and dog-friendly, this lesser known national park welcomes leashed, four-legged visitors in the campgrounds and on all trails, including the popular boardwalk trail. Starting on a bluff at the Harry Hampton Visitor Center, the 2.4-mile boardwalk will lead you and your pooch through an old-growth bottomland hardwood forest comprising various tree species, including bald cypress, tupelo, loblolly pine, maple, oak, and holly. Be sure to pick up a self-guiding brochure at the visitor center to learn about the park's history and natural ecology as you travel along the trail. Pet waste bags are also provided outside the visitor center in case you forgot to bring your own.

Bluff Rd
With a community center, playground, and picnic area, Bluff Road Park in nearby Columbia is a great spot to bring the entire family. For furry members, there's a paved loop trail that goes through a wooded area past the tennis courts and playground. The whole loop stretches 0.7 miles and can easily be completed by puppers of all fitness levels. After getting some exercise in with Fido, take a pawse at the picnic tables to enjoy a packed lunch. Always keep your dog leashed and under control while at Bluff Road Park, and pick up after him to ensure a woofderful time for all!

Shop Rd
For off-leash fun, head out 9 miles northwest from Hopkins to the Doggie Park in nearby Columbia. This members-only dog park is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, giving Fido unlimited access to a safe environment where he can run and play unfettered anytime. Located next to the city's animal shelter, Doggie Park is spacious, with lots of trees and a 3-foot-deep doggie pond, which is pawfect for pups who love to paddle. Drinking water for the dogs and shade and seating for the humans are provided as well. For information on how to register, check out the City of Columbia's website.

Southeast Columbia
Southeast Park in the neighboring city of Columbia is home to a network of trails that total 6 miles, making it a furrific spot to go for a leashed walk with high-energy doggos. Paved and dirt trails will lead you and Fido through the woods linking the tennis courts, around the pond, and to an overlook where you may catch a glimpse of white egrets. If you and your pooch need a place to spend the night, the nearby La Quinta Inn welcomes two pets of any size for no extra fee. Each room comes with free Wi-Fi, cable, a mini fridge, and a microwave, so make yourselves at home. Call first to reserve a pup-friendly room!

Meadowfield
With wooded grassy areas and a paved walking trail, Woodland Park in neighboring Columbia is a nice place to spend a beautiful afternoon with your pooch. The loop trail is set near the picnic area and covers 0.2 miles, so you might want to go around a few times, especially if Fido has lots of energy to burn off. Let him sniff and explore the grassy areas as well to really tire him out; just remember to keep your pup leashed at all times. Spacious, quiet, and well-maintained, Woodland Park also features a community center, ball field, playground, and tennis courts.
