Summerville Town Center
You can find the Azalea Park, the crown jewel of Summerville, in the Town Center neighborhood. Enjoy the sights and smells of the blooming azaleas and camellias as you enjoy the meandering paths with your pup. This park also features reflective ponds, bronze statues and benches. In the same neighborhood, just across from town hall, you can find Hutchinson Square. This nicely landscaped “town square” hosts different events throughout the year, from free concerts to the annual Christmas Tree lighting. Just east of these parks, you’ll find the Sawmill Branch flowing gently through Summerville. The Sawmill Branch has a multi-use 7 mile long pathway that borders it. All of these areas welcome leashed dogs of course, so get ready to make some furry friends on your travels!

Longridge
Dog owners love living in the Long Ridge neighborhood in the north end of Summerville, because that’s where you can find the Wassamassaw Community Park. This park has something fun for everyone, including your pooch! The features include picnic tables, playgrounds, open grassy areas, and best of all, two seperate dog runs! There is one section for large breeds and one section for small breeds. Here your pup can run, play, and sniff in glorious off-leash freedom! There are walking paths in the surrounding area as well that are easy on the paws. Your pup is welcome throughout the park, but must remained leashed when not in the fenced in areas.

Westoe
In the south end of Summerville, in the neighborhood of Westoe, you can find a beautiful space to get back into nature with your pupper. This park has 70 acres of protected wetland and forest situated along the beautiful Ashley River. There is a 1.5 mile hiking trail that wanders through this peaceful area. If you like to learn a little more about the local wildlife, check out the informational signs posted throughout the park. Your best pal doesn’t need to feel left out either, because leashed dogs are welcome throughout the park as long as they’re picked up after. Don’t forget the waste bags!

Dorchester Estates
To learn more about the early history of colonial South Carolina, while getting some fresh air and exercise with your pupper, check out the Colonial Dorchester State Historic Site. You can take a look at the remains of the St. George’s Anglican Church bell tower, or even watch archaeologists at work uncovering the land. This area welcomes well-behaved dogs in most areas as long as they stay leashed and are picked up after. After working up an appetite, head over to Opa Cafe in the Dorchester Shopping Plaza. This cafe features authentic Greek cuisine and outdoor dog friendly tables.

Ridgeville Town Center
Just a hop over the border into the Ridgeville Town Center brings you to another expansive green space, the Givhans Ferry State Park. This state park is located at the mouth of the Edisto River, and offers picnicking, wildlife watching, camping, canoeing, and more. Well-behaved, leashed dogs are allowed throughout the park except for the cabin and cabin areas. There are hikes available as well, where you can enjoy views of the limestone bluffs along the Ashley River formed by prehistoric ocean deposits. Amenities include clean showers, bathrooms, and campsites with water and electric. Whether its for peaceful meditation in nature or heart pumping adventure, Givhans Ferry State Park is a great getaway for you and you canine companion!
