Dog Walking in Meggett

The town of Meggett, South Carolina is located in Charleston County. Meggett was founded in 1905, and it served as a hub for the Lowcountry's exports, including oysters and fish. The town also exported so much cabbage that, at one point, the town was known as the "Cabbage Capital of the World." As Meggett is only 40 minutes from Charleston, it serves as a bedroom community for the larger city, with many people choosing to live in Meggett and commute to work in Charleston.

When it comes to being a dog-friendly town, Meggett has some work to do. There are no dog-friendly restaurants in town, and there are no dog parks where your pup can enjoy some off-leash time. Meggett also doesn't have a veterinarian clinic, but there are two separate clinics just a short drive away. If you don't mind a short drive to Charleston or Mt Pleasant, though, there are plenty of opportunities for you to enjoy a day out with your canine companion, whether you want to hike, play, eat, or sight-see!

Meggett is a small town in the South Carolina Lowcountry. Despite its small size, the town is overflowing with Southern hospitality and will gladly welcome you and your family -- including the furry members!

If your pup likes doing the doggie paddle, make sure to take them to James Island County Park! This bark park is about 20 miles from Meggett. There are four acres for your dog to get some off-leash exercise, and on one side of the park, you'll find a dog beach. We're sure your pup will love taking a dip here on a hot, summer day! There's a separate, fenced-in area for small dogs, but they're still welcome at the dog beach. Water and waste bags are provided for you, so you don't need to worry about bringing any from home.

You and Fido can have a ball playing at Ackerman Park Dog Run, located 30 minutes from Meggett! This bark park gives your pup the pawpportunity to have some off-leash fun in a safe, fenced-in area. There's plenty of shaded seating for dog moms and dads, and water is provided for both you and your pup. Locals do warn that this dog run is located next to a skate park, so if your dog is easily scared of loud noises, you might want to take them to another dog park in the area. Waste bags aren't provided, so please bring your own.

Charleston's French Quarter neighborhood is about a 40-minute drive from Meggett, but it has plenty to offer you and Fido! There are plenty of dog-friendly restaurants in the neighborhood. Two of the most popular choices are Poogan's Porch and Eli's Table, both of which allow your dog to dine with you on the patio. Hazel Parker Park Dog Run lets your dog get some off-leash exercise and socialize with his fellow fur-iends. There are limited hours; the park is open before 9 a.m. and after 6 p.m. during the summer months. There's plenty of fun waiting for you and your dog in the French Quarter!

About 22 miles, Hampton Park Dog Run provides you and your pup with another pawfect dog park to play at! This bark park is off-leash, allowing your pup to burn off any excess energy. This dog run is surfaced with grass in one part and sand in another, so after a heavy rain, it can get quite muddy in the sandy section. There's a hose for your dog to use to cool off, but you can also use it to clean them up if needed. There's seating for dog moms and dads. All you need to bring is yourself, your dog, and some waste baggies!

Charleston's Westside neighborhood doesn't have a dog park, but if you and your dog enjoy going for long walks, be sure to visit Brittlebank Park. It's about 40 minutes from Meggett. Brittlebank sits next to the Ashley River, and along with having plenty of room to take your pup for an on-leash walk, there's also a boardwalk that allows you and Fido to take in the beautiful sunset. Make sure you bring your phone along to snap some pictures! There's also a boat dock, so if your pup is used to going out on the water, it's the perfect place to get started on your adventure!
