This state park has over 20 miles of hiking trails, and your dog is welcome to join you on any of them! Just remember to bring along some waste disposal bags and a leash, as one is required on all of the trails. Locals advise keeping a close watch on your pup, though, as this state park is full of native wildlife. Grab your best walking shoes, some water for you and Fido, and head over for a walk to remember!

Central

Less than 10 miles from Millington is Central Bartlett, where you and your pup will have a ton of fun playing at the city’s only dog park. Bartlett Dog Park is a large, fenced-in dog park where your four-legged friend can have some fun off of his leash. There’s a separate section for puppies and small dogs, but both sections have plenty of fun things to do. Bring a ball to play fetch, or let your dog go for a swim in one of the several kiddie pools the dog park keeps full during the summer. Bartlett Dog Park also provides waste disposal bags.

Midtown

Memphis’s Midtown neighborhood, located about 30 minutes south of Millington, is home to Overton Park. But what would Overton Park be without Overton Bark, their very own fenced-in, off-leash dog park? This one-acre dog park offers your dog a chance to make some pawesome new friends while running around and playing. The cleverly-named Overton Bark has plenty of seating for dog parents and water fountains so that both you and your pooch can stay hydrated during playtime. Waste disposal bags are not provided. Your dog is welcome to explore the rest of Overton Park with you, but he’ll need a leash.

Hayden Place

Thirty minutes south of Millington is Memphis’s Hayden Place neighborhood, home of the very first dog park in the city: Memphis Dog Park. This spacious, off-leash dog park offers plenty of room for your dog to run around, allowing him to get in his daily exercise and burn off any excess energy. Memphis Dog Park also has a few pieces of agility equipment, and if your dog is the adventurous type, he’s sure to enjoy climbing around. This bark park offers waste disposal bags, but it doesn’t have water service, so make sure to bring some of your own!

Shelby Farms

Although Memphis’s Shelby Farms Park is located 40 minutes from Millington, it’s definitely worth the drive. Your dog will thank you! Shelby Farms Park is a humongous park that offers plenty of walking trails for you and your dog to explore, so long as he’s on a leash. When your pup wants to run around and play, head to the section of Shelby Farms specifically for dogs. Locals rave about just how much room there is for dogs to get to know one another. However, locals also warn to be on the lookout; in such a grass area, snakes are pretty common.
