A pawtastic place to take your pup is Claytor Lake State Park, located about 17 miles northeast of town. This facility has about 472 acres of land and a 4,500-acre lake. You and your furry pal can hike on one of the trails or bring a boat and launch out on the water. Dogs need to be on a leash that's no longer than six feet when visiting the park.
Head about 15 miles southwest of Hiwassee to Shot Tower State Park for a fun outing with your four-footed friend. This ten-acre property includes the historic landmark and picnic facilities. Climb the 75-foot tower to get a panoramic view of the area. Enjoy a meal by the river with your fur baby. Make sure you keep him on a leash while visiting the park. Bring water and waste bags for your outing.
