Hiwassee
Located along a bend of New River, the village of Hiwassee is a residential area that's surrounded by woods. There are farms, single-family homes, and some businesses here. You and your pal can walk along peaceful country lanes for exercise. A pawtastic place to visit in this area is New River Trail State Park. This linear park stretches for 57 miles through four Virginia counties. There's a parking area off Julia Simpkins Road where you can connect to the abandoned railroad trail. Dogs are welcome to join you if they're on a leash that's no longer than six feet. Bring water and waste bags with you.36

Town Center
About 11.3 miles north of town, you'll find the neighborhood of Town Center in Pulaski. This area includes some residential streets, a commercial district, and historic buildings. You and your pooch can stroll past the Grand Old Lady at the Train Depot. There's a lovely park next to the depot where you and Fido can play fetch or grab a picnic. Kiwanis/Dora Highway Park features a playground, benches, athletic courts, and a walking trail. Dogs are permitted to accompany you in public parks as long as they're on a leash and under your direct control. Remember to clean up any messes when you visit here.24

Dublin
The community of Dublin in Pulaski County is about 13.2 miles north of Hiwassee. This town includes commercial, industrial, and residential sections. You'll find a community college, an observatory, and a nice park here. When you want to go for a hike or jog with your special pal, head to Randolph Park off Alexander Road. This 89 acre facility includes a variety of outdoor recreational opportunities. Take your furry pal for a walk on the pathway that winds through the wooded nature area. Bring a boat and go fishing on the lake, or you can go hiking through the woods with your canine companion.
