If you're looking for a furrific place to get away with your furry pal, head to Rural Retreat Lake and Campground. This 90-acre facility offers fishing, camping, and picnic areas. Bring your tent or RV and spend a night or longer with your canine companion. Hike along the trails along the lake or fish for muskie and bass. Dogs need to be on a leash at all times.
Located about 13.4 miles east of Rural Retreat, the neighborhood of Stones Mill in Wytheville is a small development of private residences. This area located by Reed Creek features wooded country lanes. If you're looking for a pawtastic place to go exploring with your four-footed friend, head south just 4.3 miles to Crystal Springs Recreation Area. The property features hiking trails, campsites, and picnic facilities on 1800 acres. You and Spot can enjoy a gentle stroll by the creek, or take the trail that heads over the ridges. Dogs are welcome to join you here, provided they're on a leash and under your control.
You'll find Central Wytheville about 12.2 miles east of town. This neighborhood includes a downtown area with commercial buildings and some museums as well as private residences. Here, you and your pooch can enjoy a leisurely walk down the sidewalk. For a stroll and picnic in the park, head to Withers Park off North 4th Street. This community facility has a playground, open space, and a walking trail. Take a few loops around the paved pathway and pause at the Wall of Honor memorial with your fur baby. Dogs on a leash are permitted in the park, provided that you pick up their waste.
