Max Meadows, although almost invisible on the map, boasts a very large and gorgeous park, the New River Trail State Park! Get ready for some outdoor exploration with your pup on this 57 mile long park. Converted from an old, abandoned railroad, the New River Trail now features a gift shops, horesback riding trips, bike and canoe rentals, fishing, camping, and more. The trail has a mild and gentle slope, making it pawfect for family trips with kids and doggoes who want to partake in some light biking or leisurely walking. The historic and beautiful New River is parallel to the park, and stretches for roughly 39 miles. Of course, Fido is welcome to strut his stuff in this State Park, as in all parks in Virginia!

    Visit the Pauley Flatwoods neighborhood located in Austinville for a grand day out at the Shot Tower State Park, which is also managed by the State Park in Max Meadows. The Shot Tower State Park is a tranquil location to take Fido and family for a historic walk. The Shot Tower is over 200 years old and was used to make ammunition. Admission is free and guests may climb the tower, although doggoes are only allowed on the grounds and not in any buildings.
