Bainbridge Island was first discovered in 1792, and was believed to be a peninsula in the Puget Sound of Washington. Once it was finally revealed that is wasn't a peninsula, the island was settled and made into the town of Bainbridge Island. Today, the island is known for its small-town life, and was given an award by Money Magazine for being the second-best place to live in the United States, which is also right for dog-lovers!

Ask why this place is best for dog lovers, and the answer would be the puptastic Eagledale Park Off-Leash Dog Park. With over an acre dedicated to the dog park, the area is fenced-in with a double-gated entrance, and offers benches, water fountains, a paved path for a quiet stroll, and clean-up stations.

If you're looking for something a bit more relaxed, the island also gives people the oppawtunity for some casual dog-friendly dining experiences. Cafe Nola has an outdoor, seasonal patio that's dog-friendly. The Streamliner Diner also has dog-friendly outdoor seating and complimentary water for all pets.

With other food options like the Plate and Pint and three veterinarians, dogs and their humans will love life on the island.

Eagledale is the largest neighborhood on Bainbridge Island and takes up most of the southwestern part of the island. With so much land, it's no wonder the community has a dedicated dog park known as Strawberry Hill Dog Park, located inside the larger Strawberry Hill Park. The dog park is a large, fenced-in area surrounded by towering pine trees that provide lots of shade. Situated on a hill, but with no strawberries, the park has free toys, benches, a water fountain and clean-up stations. Outside the the dog park lies the rest of Strawberry Hill Park, with paved paths, and picnic and a barbeque area. Dogs are welcome into these areas, but must remain on a leash. Playing around in the dirt is fun and all, but heading out to Treehouse Cafe and enjoying one of the fourteen dog-friendly tables is excellent too, especially when you get to enjoy hot pizza and beer with your pup by your side.

If Fido is more of a dogfish, then head over to Fay Bainbridge Park, a 17-acre area with open fields, trails, camping areas, and 1,420 feet of dog-friendly shoreline. Dogs are welcome on the beach and in the water, which provides the best way to cool off during a hot summer day. You can find trash bins in the parking area, but otherwise must come prepared.
