Waverly

Waverly is a medium-sized neighborhood that rests on the northern part of Clarks Summit. The area is pretty quiet and even has some dog-friendly places to take Fido out, like the Abington Little League Field. The field is a recreational one, with 5 different baseball diamonds are all fenced in, and features paved walkways that connect them. There's restrooms, picnic areas, open space, and a playground. Dogs must remain on a leash inside the park. The Trolly Trail is another dog-friendly place inside the neighborhood that offers a 2.8-mile trial that's made from gravel and a boardwalk. Don't forget to bring water and clean-up bags while out!

Keyser Valley

Although the neighborhood of Keyser Valley is in Scranton, 6 miles from Clarks Summit, it's still pretty popular for dog walkers. The area hosts a large park known as McDade Park, which is made up of large fields, forested areas, and recreational ballfields. There are tennis courts, basketball courts, a baseball field, and a 2-mile trail system that winds through the park. Dogs are welcome inside the park while they remain on a leash, and can enjoy the picnic area, running and playing in the open areas, two pavilions, and restrooms. Additional features include clean-up stations, water fountains, trash bins, benches, and nighttime lights.

Dalton

Dalton is a small town that is 6.6 miles north of Clarks Summit, and is known for its low population and the Lackawanna State Park. The state park offers over 1,445 acres of land comprised of open fields, dense forests, and a 198-acre man-made lake. The park has 2.8 miles of different trails, boardwalks, and nature paths made from gravel and dirt. There are additional activities like fishing, boating, a dog-friendly swimming beach, camping sites, and picnic shelters. Dogs must remain on a leash inside the park, but will also have access to clean-up stations, benches, water fountains, and trash bins.

Providence

Providence is a small neighborhood along the Lackawanna River in Scranton, 6.7 miles from Clarks Summit. The area has a huge recreational area known as Weston Field, and provides over 20 acres of land for different purposes. The field has a soccer and baseball field, with a looping trail made from concrete, restrooms, a pool, a playground, and picnic tables. It's the best place to walk Fido inside the neighborhood and also provides water fountains, benches, and trash bins. For a much longer walk, you can always head to the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail, which is 17.9 miles and stays along the river. The trail is made of asphalt and crushed stone has benches and water fountains, and will eventually extend over 50 miles upon completion.

East Mountain

East Mountain is a southern neighborhood in the city of Scranton, located just 8 miles south of Clarks Summit. The area is best known for the large Nay Aug Park that has over 140 acres of land. The park is gorgeous, and is mostly forested with recreational fields and open space. The Roaring Brook cuts right through it, creating lovely waterfalls. Although the main attraction for the park is all the natural hiking trails, the park also hosts baseball, soccer, and tennis fields, with a playground, picnic pavilion, restrooms, and a pool. Leashed pups can enjoy plenty of space and miles of trails, with access to water fountains, clean-up stations, and benches.
