Mount Pocono
Just a mile away from Pocono Summit is the borough of Mount Pocono, where you will find some pawsome green areas for you and Fido to explore. The Little Knob is a 33 acre expanse of open, protected green space, and is a great area to enjoy a leisurely dog walk. Another gorgeous spot is the Yankee Run Preserve, where you and your pooch will find 67 acres of outstanding natural beauty, complete with a large spring, an array of wildlife, historic landmarks, and a scenic walking path. If you need to cool down after all of that walking, Rita's Italian Ice is dog-friendly, and serves up dozens of flavors of ice creams, custards and more.

Paradise Township
The Paradise Township neighborhood of Cresco is just over three miles from Pocono Summit, and there are even more pawtastic green areas to explore here. The Kurmes Paradise Creek Nature Preserve stretches out for 400 acres, and their two hiking loops will take you and your pooch past everything from oak forests to vernal pools. For another exciting trail, this neighborhood is where you will find the Mt Airy Red Rock Mountain Bike Trail, a 4.5 mile dirt loop trail that dogs are allowed to use, so long as they are kept on a lead at all times. This neighborhood also provides access to State Game Lands 221, which boasts 4675 acres of rolling and wooded terrain, along with the 3.2 mile Devil's Hole Trail.

Long Pond
It takes about ten minutes to drive from Pocono Summit to Long Pond, and there are some pawriffic dog walks to be had here. The Pocono Lake Preserve is a large green park, home to Pocono Lake, while the Fern Ridge Bog Preserve is another scenic spot with a network of short hiking trails. Also in this neighborhood is State Game Lands 318, where you will find 850 acres of some of the most pristine natural forests and wetlands in all of Pennsylvania. There is a one and a half mile trail that you and your pooch can walk along here, with multiple vantage points along the way offering up some spectacular panoramas of your surroundings.

Lake Rd/ T591
About seven miles from Pocono Summit is the Tobyhanna neighborhood of Lake Rd/ T591, which is home to a couple of pawsome state parks. The Tobyhanna State Park tends to be the most popular, as this 5440 acre park encompasses the picturesque 170 acre Tobyhanna Lake. There are a number of recreational activities you can enjoy here, from hiking and biking to boating and fishing. The 2880 acre Gouldsboro State Park is also worth a visit, and the 5.7 mile Gouldsboro State Park Trail will take you and your pooch past some of the most scenic spots on the shores of the 250 acre Gouldsboro Lake.

Pocono Lake
The small town of Pocono Lake is about a 15 minute drive from Pocono Summit, and is an area packed with natural beauty. The Thomas Darling Preserve can be found in the Pocono Mountains, with 2500 acres of glacial wetlands and spruce forest. There are trails to take you and your pup through the preserve, just be sure to keep your dog on a lead. This neighborhood also provides access to State Game Lands 91, where you will find 21, 137 acres of forested terrain, home to a wide range of wildlife and multiple walking trails. Just be sure to bring a lead, doggie bags and drinking water!
