Morristown

Approximately 35 miles from Johnsonburg, you’ll find Lewis Morris Dog Park, which is a great place for your pooch to run, romp and make some new fur-iends in one of two separate areas. This off-leash dog park is fenced and has a mostly grassy surface, although some areas are paved. Shaded benches give the pet parents a comfortable place to relax and watch their pups play. Waste baggies are provided, but you’ll need to bring your own water. Your canine companion will have a blast here! It’s a bit of a drive to get here, but your dog is sure to bark his praises for the trip!

Hankering for a hike with your hound? You’re in the right place! Here, you’ll find the Traction Line Recreation Trail. This asphalt trail is 3.2 miles long and is a former railroad line that is now part of the Rails-To-Trails Conservancy. The terrain is fairly easy to hike, and the trail is well-shaded so you don’t have to worry about getting too hot. Do bring plenty of water for yourself and your pooch, though, and be mindful of your pup’s paws. In warm weather, hot asphalt can hurt your furry friend’s feet! Your pup will need to stay on a leash here.

Mount Olive Township

Mount Olive Township

Mt. Olive Dog Park is located within a larger community park, which your pooch must be on-leash to explore. But, once you reach the designated dog area, feel free to take off the leash and let your pup run to his heart’s content! This park has everything you’d expect: separate areas for large and small breeds, a double-gated entry system, and doggie waste bags. You’ll just need to bring some water, but leave the toys at home -- the park prohibits owners from bringing toys. But your pooch won’t mind, because he’ll be much too busy making some new fur-iends!

Within New Jersey’s Clinton Township, you’ll find the Round Valley Reservoir. This huge body of water is the pawfect place to enjoy a serene getaway in nature. The Round Valley Recreation Area is a public park which welcomes leashed dogs to accompany their owners! Many locals let their well-behaved dogs off-leash, though. Use your best judgment, and ensure your dog responds well to voice commands. You’ll find some walking trails here that provide excellent views of the reservoir. Your furry friend is more than welcome to dip his paws in the water. You’ll need to bring your own supplies, including doggie waste bags and drinking water.

Just across the Pennsylvania-New Jersey state line, you’ll find a natural oasis and hidden gem: Bushkill Falls. These falls are located in the Pocono Mountains and are a beautiful sight for you and your pup to marvel at! Your pooch must be on a leash here, and you should respect this natural space by cleaning up your pup’s messes. Be sure to bring a camera, because this is the pawfect place for a photo op with your furry friend! You’ll also need to bring your own water and waste bags. If you want to get away from the stresses of daily life and renew your spirit with your pup by your side, Bushkill Falls is the place to do it!
