Dog Areas in Mount Bethel

The small community of Mount Bethel is nestled in Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley, near the Delaware River. This area provides easy access to the Pocono Mountains and a number of parks, state forest areas, trails, and campgrounds where you and Fido can get out to explore nature.


When you want to get out into the woods with your four-footed friend, head to Bears Swamp Park. Wander the trails in this pawtastic 180 acre wilderness. You and your pooch will have a day filled with adventure hiking through the forest and wetlands in this reserve.


Another pupcredible natural area to visit with your furry friend is the Minsi Lake Wilderness Area. Bring Fido and walk the trails in the 300-acre facility. If you have a canoe, you can launch out into the 120-acre lake located in the reserve and enjoy some one-on-one time on the water with your pup.


If you want to escape to nature for a weekend or more, you’ll find pet-friendly campsites at Hickory Lake Campground, just three miles northwest of Mount Bethel. This site features a lake that’s stocked with trout. Dogs weighing up to 40 pounds are allowed in the campsites provided you keep them on a leash and pick up their waste.

If you’re looking for a place to go camping with your pooch, check out Camp Charles Campground. Here, you will find the northern trailhead for the Plainfield Township Trail. You and Fido can enjoy a scenic walk or jog together on this crushed stone path. There are five bridge crossings over Bushkill Creek on the 6.7-mile trail. Dogs are welcome on this trail provided they’re on a leash up to six feet long. Don't forget to bring all the necessities, including water, waste bags, and a leash.

    Take a drive about six miles southwest from Mount Bethel to the neighborhood of New Village in Bangor. In this small community, you and Fido will find three parks with recreational fields and five smaller pocket parks. Take your pup to Memorial Park and walk the track around the football field, or head over to Flory’s Dam Park and walk along Martins Creek through the open field and wooded areas. Make sure to keep your furry friend on a leash and pick up any messes. After you get some exercise, you and your pooch can enjoy a treat at Dinky’s Ice Cream Parlor. Dogs are welcome to join you at the outdoor tables.

This greenway along the Delaware River is pet-friendly and includes the Portland-Columbia Pedestrian Bridge. Walk along the water’s edge or cross over to Columbia, New Jersey. If you want to spend the night out in nature with your canine companion, rent a campsite at Shady Acres Campground just north of Portland. Dogs are allowed in the sites as long as they’re kept on a leash and you clean up their waste.
