Centennial Park in downtown Englewood is pretty pawpular with local dogs and their owners! You and your pooch can take a leashed wander through the wooded trails of the Carr Wood Nature Sanctuary at the back of the park, or just stroll by the lake and watch the ducks. Remember to bring your own bags and water and get there early, as parking is limited. Afterwards, you two can chill out at JD’s Old Fashioned Frozen Custard. This local favorite serves up delicious, homemade frozen delights, and welcomes wagging tails outside. Try the trash can sundae (just trust us on this one)!

You’d need to be barking mad not to take your best buddy to the Montgomery County Bark Park! The size alone makes this park well worth the eight-mile trip from Englewood -- there’s a a whole six acres of space for your pooch to leap about and tire themselves out in. There’s also some well-maintained doggy agility equipment, so fitter furry friends are guaranteed a thorough and entertaining workout! There’s plenty of shade, seating for tired owners, and waste bags for your convenience. However, it’s worth keeping in mind that the water is shut off in winter -- you might need to bring your own bottle!

The Downtown Dayton Dog Park at Deed’s Point is a real mutts-visit! The park has much more to recommend it than the amazingly alliterative name. There’s plenty of room for a spirited game of catch or tug-of-war. Bags and water are also provided, and there’s even a little wooded area for your pooch to sniff and explore! Careful, though -- the park’s surface is mostly grass, so you might want to bring a towel in case your buddy gets muddy! After you two are all tired out, consider stopping in at Quincy’s Fish and Chicken. Quincy’s serves up some seriously special shrimp, and caters to canine customers at outdoor tables.

If you and your pup are looking for a longer walk, why not hike a stretch of the Miami River Trail? The trail runs over 340 miles from Piqua to Hamilton, passing through majestic forests, pastoral landscapes, small towns, and city skyline along the way. The section closest to Englewood is mostly woodland -- visit in fall for a riot of color that needs to be seen to be believed! Your furry friend will have to stay on-leash, though. Start or finish in Tipp City and you two can visit the Golden Leaf Tea Rooms for iced or hot tea and an excellent selection of organic coffees.
