If the two of you would prefer a meatier meal, the Humboldt Smokehouse is nearby, with their speciality being handcrafted, slow-cooked meat dishes.

Bayview
The Bayview neighborhood boasts spectacular views over Humboldt Bay, making every dog walk here a scenic one. For one of the best walks in the area, give the 15 mile Hikshari Trail a try, which runs all along the bay. There is so much to see on this trail, and interpretive signage to explain your surroundings to you, from native bird species to the geology of Humboldt Bay. If you are looking for somewhere to spend the night, the Best Western Plus Bayshore Inn allows two pets per room for a small fee, although you will need to call ahead to ensure there is availability in a dog-friendly room.

Humboldt Hill/ Fields Landing
So many of Eureka's attractions are located by the coast, but the Humboldt Hill/ Fields Landing neighborhood showcases the city's green side. This is where you will find the Headwater Forest Reserve, a 7472 acre piece of land that is home to a number of ancient trees, many of them more than 2000 years old. There is one hiking trail within the reserve, known as the Elk River Trail, and dogs are permitted to walk along the first three miles of this. If your dog listens to voice commands, he will be allowed to run off the lead here too. Don't forget to bring water and doggie bags!

North Myrtle and West
North Myrtle and West is quite a spacious neighborhood, with its wide sidewalks being pawfect for an urban stroll. If your pup would like to let loose and run off the lead for a while, head on over to the Eureka Dog Park, a small city park just for dogs. The entire park is fenced in, with the fences being high enough to prevent even the largest breeds from jumping over. There are also plenty of doggie bags available, as well as a doggie water fountain for when Fido gets thirsty. Keep in mind that this park can get quite muddy, especially if it has recently rained, so you may want to bring a towel for your dog for afterwards.
