Charming, family-friendly, and just a twenty-minute drive from Fayetteville, there’s a lot to like about Prairie Grove, Arkansas! The small city has a long and storied history -- it’s most famous as the site of the Battle of Prairie Grove, a bloody incident that played a huge part in deciding the course of the Civil War. On a lighter note, the town is also home to the Prairie Grove Airlight Outdoor Telephone Booth, the only telephone booth to ever have been added to the National Register of Historic Places! These days, though, Prairie Grove is known as a tight-knit, welcoming place, with a small-town vibe and a real sense of community.

There’s no designated dog park in Prairie Grove, but it’s still a pretty fur-friendly place! With a population of just over four thousand, Prairie Grove isn’t the largest, but there’s still room for a veterinary clinic, and emergency care services are available in nearby Springdale. You and your pooch won’t lack for exercise options, either -- Delford Reif Park is a lovely little spot for a leashed walk, and there’s a pawesome state park right in town. You may need to drive a little to get the best for your buddy, but don’t worry -- you’ll find plenty of opportunities for off-leash adventure a little further afield!

Cultured canines might get a kick out of a visit to Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park! The park is known as one of the Civil War’s most accurately preserved battlefields, and it even contains a restored village. Your pooch won’t be able to join you in the museum, of course, but they’re still welcome to wander around the buildings and stay by your side on the guided tours -- as long as they’re leashed, of course. The park also contains a mile-long walking trail that meanders past some of the main sights. Remember to bring bags and water!

You’d need to be barking mad not to bring your pooch to Lake Wilson Park in Fayetteville! The park’s off-leash area is a nature-loving pup’s paradise -- there’s no fenced-in dog run, but there is a mile long trail for your furry friend to sniff and explore! The walk is well-shaded by mature trees, and owners are sure to appreciate the gorgeous lakeside views. Unfortunately for water-loving pooches, though, swimming is not permitted in the lake. It’s also well worth taking a walk through the people side of the park, which contains some creekside trails and a fascinating sculpture garden.

IAMS Dog Park in Fayetteville is a real mutts-visit! The park is absolutely massive -- there’s plenty of space here for even the most energetic fur-ball to leap about to their heart’s content. The park has three separate areas -- one for large dogs, one for small dogs, and one for bigg’uns and littl’uns who just want to get along. Not only that, but both the size-segregated areas have their own sets of agility equipment -- if you’ve ever thought about teaching your dog to jump, this is the place to do it! Bags and water are provided, so just bring your pup and prepare to play!

If you and your pooch are looking for a pretty place to stretch your legs, look no further than the Scull Creek Trail! The trail is both level and paved, so the walk is accessible for all ages and abilities. If you two have worked up an appetite, you’re in luck -- Downtown Fayetteville is a haven for doggy diners. For a quick bite, try Atlanta Bread, an amazing local bakery that caters to canines at their outdoor tables. Or, if you two are in the mood for something more substantial, consider stopping in at Zoe’s Kitchen. Their lamb kofta is to die for, and they welcome wagging tails outside.

Gulley Park in Fayetteville is a pawfect day out for all the family, including four-legged family members! Here, you’ll find a 1.5-mile trail to walk your dog on, several well-maintained playgrounds, wide open green space, and a gently burbling creek. Gulley Park really shines in the summer months, though -- for the last twenty-two years, the city of Fayetteville has been hosting weekly free concerts in the park throughout July and August. Your pooch is welcome to join you, as long as they’re leashed and well-mannered. Don't forget to bring the essentials, pawticularly drinking water and doggie waste bags!
