The old river town of Saint Charles is just north of the greater St. Louis metropolitan area. Its historic district in particular receives many visitors each year. Dogs are frequently seen touring the city with their people. The Lambert International Airport is just a short drive across the Missouri River from Saint Charles, making this a pawpular destination for travellers.

The riverfront has a couple of parks, in which local events are often held. Frontier Park is adjacent to the downtown historic district at 500 S. Riverside. This park has a historic depot and walking trails along the Missouri River. Dogs must be on leash while on the trails, though. Visitors to Frontier Park like to take photos in front of the 15-foot high stautue of Lewis and Clark and their dog, Seaman. If you're just looking for a quiet walk, the Katy Trailway also runs through Frontier Park.  This paved, long stretch of trail is popular with dog walkers, hikers, and bicyclists. The Katy trail currently extends some 237 miles, and in St. Charles it follows the exploration route of Lewis and Clark. The trail runs through the northern riverfront park, the DuSable Park, which is also home to the city's only dog park.

There is no shortage of services for dogs in Saint Charles, either. There are six veterinarian offices or animal hospitals in the city limits alone. All provide emergency and routine care in addition to other services. Saint Charles is a great city for both visitors and residents with dogs.
