I love dogs. I have spent 35 years teaching and coaching high school sports, it is time to retire and I am ready for a change of pace. I have rescued two dogs, one lived with me for 15 years and my current dog has been with me for 5 years. I enjoy exercising and training her. I enjoy the outdoors and I like to remain active. University City, Missouri is one of the older suburbs of the St. Louis area. Most of the historic architecture remains in the southern, older portion of the city. The northern portion of the city has a more suburban feel as it was developed after WWII. The closest veterinary services are located in Clayton, just south of the city.

In the next town over, Olivette, is Irv Zeid Park, where you'll find the local dog park! This furrific park is open from dawn to dusk. Non-residents must pay a fee of $40 per year and $20 more if your family is larger than one pooch.

Water Tower Dog Park at Compton Hill Reservoir Park is a membership-only, fenced-in, off-leash dog park that ensures the safety and health of your pup! Tower Grove Park is a clean dog park that invites all dogs to play on-leash and socialize with other local pooches in a scenically beautiful space. The annual Strut Your Mutt event is held at Tower Grove Park to help raise money for homeless, abused and neglected animals in the local community.

St. Louis is one of the most well-known cities in Missouri that is easily accessible from Interstate 70, 44, 55, and 64, and just 12 miles from University City! Lucas Park Dog Park is a well-maintained, gated doggie play area that does require a membership to enjoy their array of toys, kiddie pools, poop bags, and water fountains. The St. Louis Riverfront Trail is a recently converted old railway that now provides ample walking space for residents and their on-leash fur babies! 314 The City Bar, Pi Pizzeria, and Morgan Street Brewery are the local eateries and pubs that accommodate pooches.

Glasgow Village, just under 25 minutes away from University City, offering scenic views of the Mississippi River and the Missouri/Illinois state border. The Bellefontaine Conservation Area rests on 133 acres of beautiful, untouched land, providing visitors access to fun activities like fishing and hiking. Dogs that are kept on leash are free to explore hiking paths with their owners. However, be advised they are prohibited from going into the water. The Old Chain of Rocks Bridge is a multi-use pathway that is part of the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy project that repurposes old railroads and corridors into useable trails. If you’re visiting from out of town and staying in Glasgow Village, America’s Best Value Inn allows four-legged guests to get some shut-eye!

University City loves dogs! This college town is easily accessible from Interstate 170, and to top it off, it also offers a lot of dining and entertainment options that are dog friendly. University City Off-Leash Dog Park invites local doggies to come play and socialize in a safely fenced and well-lit environment. It also comes with two areas for large and small dogs, water, pools, toys, seating for humans and shade! This does require a membership and fees, but this ensures all dogs are up-to-date on their vaccinations. If you’re looking for dog-friendly restaurants, University City is literally crawling with them! If a downtown restaurant has outdoor tables, chances are good Fido is allowed to accompany you -- just ask first!
