Schellin Dog Park is a small dog park located on Maple Street in Wooster. Schellin Dog Park is completely fenced-in, meaning you can be worry-free while your dog runs leash-free. Surrounding trees provide plenty of shade, and benches and tables are located throughout the park so you can take a load off while your dog runs off his excess energy. Water is provided in the warmer months, but you’ll need to bring water for your pet in the cooler months.

Freelander Park is a park for your pooches and your kiddos. Your kids will have a blast on the playground equipment, which includes a smaller playground for toddlers, toddler swings, “big kid” swings, slides, and monkey bars. A disc golf course is also on the property. Your dog has to be on her leash while enjoying a day at this park, but Freelander Park is perfect for a leisurely walk or a game of fetch. Please clean up after your dog to help keep the park clean (the last thing we want is a child playing in dog poop!).

Obviously, Ohio is not a state known for its beaches, but if you’re willing to drive about 43 miles, your pup can spend a day at the beach – Bow Wow Beach Dog Park, that is! Bow Wow Beach is a 7.5-acre, completely fenced-in dog park that encompasses a 5-acre lake. Dogs can swim in the lake, play on the puppy playground (which includes hurdles, ramps, and tunnels), or just frolic about. There are well cared for benches and picnic tables to sit at, fresh drinking water, water bowls, and shower stations to rinse the beach off your dog’s fur before you leave, so it’s definitely worth the trip!

There is also running water at the park so make sure your canine pal has plenty to drink while she is romping around.  Also in the area is Wags ‘N’ Whiskers.  If your pup is a little muddy after the dog park, let the folks at this full service grooming give her a good scrub. Wooster City Center is home to Dog Logic. Barb, the head trainer, takes a holistic approach to canine health. When addressing behavior, she considers the mind, body and spirit of a dog. Her facility offers a variety of classes as well as home and boarding school. She also does one on one consultations. If your dog is struggling with certain habits, pencil in some time for one of her classes. Spa days are also available.  At this salon, grooming and training go hand in hand. So if your dog is anti-bath or runs from the nail clippers, he’ll learn to relax and let go of fear.

Oak Hill Park is a pawsome place for your pup to get his daily dose of doggy exercise. Nestled in the Mechanicsburg and Devil Town area, this park is a local beauty all year round. During the warm months, leash up your pup and head out on the trail. Wander through the abundance of trees and native Ohio prairie plants. The natural scents will get your canine pal’s nose going full speed. Since this is a popular spot for jogging and biking, your pup will have the chance to practice leash manners and socialization. In the winter, the park is a favorite sledding destination. When the weather turns, bundle up and let your dog frolic in the snow.

Pack up your pooch and head over to the Spangler-Wooster Memorial Park for some outdoor fun. This park is located just five miles west of Wooster and boasts more than 300 acres of prime wooded landscape. The network of trails wanders through thick forests and steep ravines. Trails range from under half a mile to 3.5 miles, so you can go until your pup is tuckered out. Your furry pal will love the natural smells and the feel of dirt under his paws. In the spring, native wildflowers can be spotted throughout the park. And in the autumn, the colorful leaves put on quite a show.  Your pooch won’t want to miss out on this natural area.

If your dog is ready to get out and move, clip on her leash and head over to Cohan Park. Situated in the Burbank and Highland neighborhood, this park is perfect for an afternoon of exploring. Let your pup’s nose do the work and follow her into the wooded area.  You’ll probably cross paths with a squirrel or two.  You can also just saunter around the large grassy fields. A small creek runs through the park and provides a pupperific place for your furry pal to wade and splash. Find a spot under one of the trees and nibble on some lunch or read a favorite book. No bones about, this park will make your pup’s tail wag!
