If you're looking for space to play, try out the Apple Valley Dog Park. Separated into a large dog area and a small dog area, this fenced-in park is the perfect spot to let Fido off-leash. There's also the Civic Center Dog Park, located on the western side of town. Locals love the water fountains and pet fountains, as well as the company of friendly regulars.

For a short hike, check out Bell Mountain. Though it's just under a mile long, this trail is rated as difficult and should only be attempted by those ready for a tough workout. The top of the mountain provides gorgeous panoramic views of the valley - well worth the trek up.

Need something a little easier? Try the Heart Rock Trail. At just over 1.5 miles, this gently sloping path leads to a waterfall and some very unique rock formations. For a longer trail, try the 3.6-mile Deep Creek Trail. This trail is renowned for its' abundant hot springs - truly a sight to see in the California desert.
