Smith Flat Road
El Dorado Trail is only about ten miles from you. You will be delighted at what Rail- to-Trails has done with this section of the trail. The 8.5 miles of trails wind around the base of the mountains. This section includes the Weber Creek trestle, which sits 100 feet above the creek. This is an impressive view that will make you glad you have your dog on his leash. The trestle has been here since 1903. Most of it is paved to make it easier to pass along. It is a beauty to behold, so don’t forget to bring a camera along!

Sky Ridge Loop
Hidden Falls Regional Park is an 18-mile drive from Lotus. You can pack a lunch and come enjoy a picnic right next to the falls if you choose. The path to get to the falls is less than a mile walk. It is a peaceful and serene place that the entire family can enjoy all year long. There are beautiful wildflowers along the way for Fido to sniff. If you are quiet and patient, you may even be able to see some wildlife enjoy the area with you! Please keep your dog on his leash while you are here.

Northeast
The Folsom Lake State Recreation Area is well worth the 20-mile drive from Lotus. It sits right at the foot of the mountains. Anything that you enjoy outside, you can enjoy here. You can bring your tent and camp out for the night. Of course, there is fishing and hiking. You will love that there are so many trails that you can come often and always find a new way to create a new adventure. There are designated swimming areas for you and your dog to enjoy together, too. Most areas require Fido to stay on his leash, but there are a few spots where he can play off his leash if you have taught him to respond to voice commands.

Rollingwood Bluffs
In about 25 miles, you can get to the Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail in Orangevale. This two-lane, paved trail runs through Orangevale, Sacramento, and Carmichael. You can easily travel a section it with your dog, as long as he stays on leash. There are bathrooms and water fountains along the way, so don’t worry if you forgot to bring water with you. You will need to bring some doggie waste bags, though. No one likes a litterbug! The best part is that you can even find a spot to swim in the American River along the trail, although this is located at the opposite end of the American River Trail system.

Jennerbear Woods
You can find a great walking and bike trail just 25 miles from you. The American River Bike Trail runs 35 miles along the American River. It is perfect because it is a two-lane path that’s completely paved so you can enjoy it easily. There are mile markers, water fountains, and even restrooms along the trails. If you get too hot, there are a few marked places where you can just jump in and go for a swim. This is a great place for a new adventure! You will want to visit often because each time you visit you will find something new to see and smell.
