Avila Beach Dr/ Diablo Canyon Rd
Avila Beach is a great beach to take Fido to and let him get his paws a little wet. The beach does allow your dog to be off-leash, but make sure to follow all posted signs. The beach does have doggie-clean up bags for you, but be sure to bring water for your dog to drink. The beach has a “natural” fence since it is boarded by rocks. Avila beach is always filled with friendly dogs that are ready to play. The beach also has fire pits so if you want to have some smores with your dog after some fetch then you can.

Stoneridge
Stoneridge is home to the San Luis Obispo Railroad Safety Trail. This trail is a great 1.9 miles of easy to walk on asphalt that your dog will love to explore with you. Currently, the trail will take you through the heart of San Luis Obispo, but the city is thinking of expanding it to go even further. The trail is popular with skaters and other walkers, so make sure to bring clean-up bags for your dog. If you want to continue your walk, the trail connects to Sinsheimer Park. Sinsheimer Park is great to visit with your pup for a fun day of fetch or just continue your walk.

Foothill
The Laguna Lake Park is a great spot to take your dog for a fun day out. Although the park is labeled as a dog park, there is no fenced in area to keep dogs secure, so be aware of that before you take your pup off-leash. Laguna Lake Park has restrooms for people, a doggie water fountain, plenty of trees for shade, benches for dog owners, and a big grass area for fetch. If your dog likes hiking, then Laguna Park is perfect since it has a few mountains that your dog can climb around and explore.

Ferrini Heights
If you are looking for a fenced in dog park, then visit El Chorro Regional Park. This park has a fenced in section for dogs, plus BBQs, a botanical garden, and hiking trails. The dog park has benches for owners to relax on, plenty of shade to help keep your dog cool, and separate sections for small and large dogs. There is also a public restroom for people to use on site. El Chorro Regional Park and the dog park inside are both big and spacious, but be aware that they are covered in wood chips instead of grass.

Downtown
Downtown has a plethora of dog-friendly restaurants that you and your dog can enjoy together. Old San Luis BBQ offers authentic Santa Maria style cuisine with family recipes that date back to nearly a century ago. F. McClintock’s serves different types of smoked meats and has a temperature controlled patio. Novo Restaurant and Lounge dishes out some tasty international cuisine, and their patio is located right by a creek! All three of these restaurants are dog friendly, and if none of them fit your fancy you can continue to walk around downtown and check out the other eateries.
