Central Athens

Central Athens

Located in the heart of Athens you will find one of the strangest, best dog parks you will ever come across. Memorial Park is everything you could ask for and more. This park has plenty of playgrounds for children so you can take the whole family! It has a completely fenced-in dog park with plenty of space so your dog can run around and play with other dogs. Interestingly, the park also has a small zoo where you can see different types of animals. Just make sure you take a leash to use while you’re not in the fenced in dog park area.

East Athens

East Athens

All too often seen as a party town, Athens is one of the most underrated cities in Georgia. In the eastmost part of the city you will find Ben Burton Park. Although this is not a dog park it has everything you could ask for while on an outing with your dog. The park has 32 acres’ worth of large open spaces where you and your dog can sit and relax or run around. It also has trails where you will see many dog owners walking and running with their dogs. In addition, it has direct access to the river so your dog can swim while you get your toes wet!

Southeast Athens

Southeast Athens

Unfortunately Athens does not have a large number of dog parks. However, there are plenty of other parks such as the Southeast Clarke Park where you can take your dog. The park is fairly new with brand new equipment and seating. The park has a fenced-in area which is often used as a dog park by locals. Unfortunately, there are not a ton of amenities for dog owners so make sure you take your own doggie poop bags and water. Furthermore, this park is great for a low-key evening stroll with your dog. However, it can get very busy in the evenings so make sure you have a leash!

North Athens

North Athens

Who doesn’t love to run around in lush green grass under the shade of hundred-year-old trees? If you find yourself to be one of these people and know your dog would love to follow suit, head to Sandy Creek Park- located in the north side of Athens. This park has plenty of space for dogs to run around with leases and enjoy themselves. There is a small fee of $1 to take your dog to the park where you will have access to three large fenced-in areas. The owners provide doggie poop bags and plenty of water so you and your dog can have a pawsome time.

Winder

Winder

Only 25 miles from Athens is Winder, a town that is home to one of the best parks in the area. Fort Yargo State Park is not a dog park but makes up for it with its open shaded areas and beach access. You can even view a log fort that was built in the late 18th century by colonial settlers! The park is often used by campers so you will have to keep your dog on a leash. However, because the park is so large you will have no problem walking or running around it with your dog. Just make sure you take your own water and doggie poop bags as this is not a dog park.
