Lake Anita State Park
Anita is a small city in Cass County, Iowa, located northwest of Creston and west of Des Moines. The city is located near a huge recreation facility centered on the lake and a great retreat for tired travelers! Lake Anita State Park is a modern campground with nature trails centered on a 171-acre lake. This is the best spot for fishing in the area! Your pooch is welcome to join you as you hike and try to catch the biggest fish in the lake; however, Fido should stay on-leash at all times and behave himself. Bring your own drinking water and some toys for your boisterous buddy.

Bloomfield/Allen
One of the biggest eastern neighborhoods in Des Moines, Bloomfield/Allen occupies a significant part of northeastern corner of the city, and includes several recreational areas, a lake, and quiet residential quarters. You will not be able to miss Ewing Park, an expansive green park with multiple sports fields. Ewing Dog Park is set just across the street! This beautiful fenced facility is the pawfect place to bring Fido for a decent off-leash run near the water and let him stretch his legs after a long ride! The place is usually not crowded, but there are enough visitors to play with. Bring your own drinking water, as none is available here.

If you're driving along the interstate with Fido and need to make a pit stop, Colby Park is a great place to do it. This public park features Clive Greenbelt Trail, an 8-mile hike stretching from Clive to Windsor Heights. This pet-friendly path is paved and runs through the suburbs, making the scenery stand out! But if you want to let your buddy roam off-leash, Windsor Heights Dog Park, right across from Colby Park, is a cool spot to hang out with local mutts and burn some energy. The dog park is fenced and is free to use.
