Columbia is a small town in Illinois that borders the Mississippi River,  and is about 12 miles from St. Louis, Missouri on the opposite side of the historic waterway. While the rushing waters of this large river may be a bit intimidating for most pups, Columbia has a lot to offer its resident and visiting dogs. Home to six veterinarians, Columbia ensure that all pups get the help they need to stay healthy and happy canines.

Take your pup out to one of the great parks that Columbia has to offer. The Meadow Ridge Park offers fantastic grassy areas, as well as baseball and football fields, and tennis and basketball courts. Your pup may be more interested in the walking path that Meadow Ridge Park has to offer for a nice walk.

The trails range from 0.5-miles to 5-miles, and are smooth with packed dirt, perfect for any hiker and pup. The Spring Valley Trail, Riverbluff Trail, and Mississippi Trail are all loop routes, which makes it super easy to follow and hard to get lost. Watch out for the poison ivy in the park since it can get bad in the summer, and don't forget water and clean-up bags when you visit.

    If you and your pup are looking for a place to go for a relaxing day, look no further then the Schorr Lake Vineyard. The vineyard is in Waterlook, only 10 miles out of Columbia, and a great spot to bring your pup. There are tons of outdoor seating for you and Fido to use while you sample wine, all while enjoying a great view of the river. Afterwards, grab some food at JV's Downtown Bar and Grill. This location was originally a brewery that was built in the 1880's and was transformed into a bar that is dog friendly. Make sure to get your hands on some hickory smoked pork and chicken while you enjoy their outdoor patio with your pup.
