Located about midway between Gary and Lafayette, the city of Rensselaer is a rural community with several neighborhood parks. Dogs and their owners will find opportunities to get outdoors together here. There are three veterinary clinics in town if you're seeking professional care for your pup.
Plan a day or weekend adventure with your four-footed pal. Head west about 21.5 miles to Willow Slough Fish and Wildlife Area. This 9,956-acre facility offers fishing, hunting, wildlife viewing, and camping. You can bring dogs in designated areas as long as they're under controls. Pack water and waste bags for your outing.
Take your fur baby camping at Acorn Oaks Campground, located about 12 miles east of town. This facility has tent and RV sites available. There are walking trails and a fishing pond here. Dogs are welcome to join you, provided that you keep them on a leash and immediately clean up their waste.
Another pawesome campground in the area is Oak Lake Family Campground. This 88-acre property offers tent and RV sites with free wireless. Go hiking and exploring around the lake with your special pal. You can bring dogs as long as they're vaccinated and non-aggressive. Make sure you keep them on a leash when you have them outside and clean up their waste.

Best Dog Neighborhoods in Rensselaer
The Iroquois area is located just southeast of the Iroquois River. This residential area has two community parks and streets with sidewalks where you can go for a stroll with your furry pal. If you want to enjoy a walk by the water while you and fido get some exercise, head to Iroquois Park. This riverside facility has a great playground for the kids and some open field where you and your pooch can play fetch or frisbee together. You're allowed to bring dogs here as long as you keep them on a leash and under control. Bring waste bags with you.
The Brookside neighborhood includes some streets with single-family homes and a few small buisnesses. Take your pooch for a walk around the block here for some daily exercise. There's a nice community park in the area where you and fido can play some fetch or work on obedience drills. Head to Brookside Park and run your pup through his paces in the open space. Bring along a snack and enjoy an outdoor meal with your special pal. Dogs need to be kept on a leash and under control in public facilities. Remember to bring along waste bags to clean up after your companion.
The Columbia Park community has residential streets, three public schools, and an industrial section. There are some quiet neighborhood blocks where you and Spot can stretch your legs together here. Take your four-footed pal to Columbia Park to catch a game or play some frisbee. This pocket park has a ball field, a playground, and some grassy space. Bring along food and a blanket and share a picnic lunch with your fur baby. Remember to keep your pooch on a leash and under control at all times. Make sure you pack waste bags so that you can clean up any messes.
N. Cullen Street cuts through the downtown section of Rensselaer. This area has sidewalks where you can walk your furry friend. Take a stroll along the main street or through the neighborhood with your special pal. Visit Potawatomi Park, located just west of downtown and by the Iroquois River. You'll find a walking path and footbridge over the Iroquois River in this pawesome little facility. Walk by the water with your canine companion and follow the trail to get some exercise. Bring something to eat and enjoy the fresh air with your four-footed friend at one of the tables here. Keep your pup on a leash and clean up after him.
