Westville is a small town in Indiana that’s only a few miles from the incredible Lake Michigan. Westville is in the perfect location for people who want a mix of city and country life, as it also will only take you about 45 minutes to get to the heart of Chicago! There is one animal hospital and a mobile grooming spa in town, and you can also take your pup for an outdoor adventure at the Bark Park at Bluhm County Park. The off-leash area is loved by locals, offering lots of space to play and some agility equipment to maximize fun and exercise.
For more dog-friendly fun, you can travel just about any direction out of Westville and find plenty of restaurants and parks that welcome pooches. About 11 miles away is Michigan City, which is the home of the Bark Park at Creek Ridge County Park. This fenced-in park has tons of space to play on fresh grass.
La Porte is about 12 miles away and is where you’ll find Kesling Park, a public park with playgrounds, picnic areas, open grassy areas, and several nature trails that welcome dogs to join their owners! Westville creates a pawfect opportunity for you and your furry friend to get outside and enjoy what nature offers.
A little under 11 miles from Westville is the Downtown and Campus area of Valparaiso. This neighborhood is a furtastic place to stop for a yummy treat with your dog since it has a few paw-friendly restaurants to offer. Tomato Bar Pizza Bakery is one of them, serving up a variety of unique pizza, salad, and sandwich options with some vegan and gluten-free pizzas available too. Yats Cajun Creole will make you feel like you’re right in the heart of New Orleans with its selection of gumbo, chili, curry chicken, and more. Both places have outdoor tables for you and your pup.
Westchester is a neighborhood in Chesterton that’s about 8.6 miles from Westville. This neighborhood has a couple of dog-friendly hotels, but also has some dining spots where you and your dog can eat together. Port Drive-In is one pupular place for locals and travelers alike. This old-fashioned restaurant will make you feel as if you’ve jumped back into the 50s! You’ll order from your car and eat there too, so Spot is welcome to come along. George’s Gyros Spot is another place to try for some Greek fare. You can enjoy your meal at one of the outdoor tables with your pooch.
Got an outdoor-loving dog? Just about 15 miles from Westville is the place you’ll want to go: the Indiana Dunes State Park area of Chesterton. Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore is here, offering a long stretch of beach where pups are welcome to play in the sand, splash in the water, and join other dogs and their owners for some fun in the sun. The lakeshore is known to be a great place to catch sightings of local wildlife, too. The beach area also grows thousands of species of plants, making it a pawesome place to get some excellent photos of your dog enjoying the outdoors.
A little over 40 miles from Westville is the Homestead neighborhood of Highland, IN. This neighborhood has a designated dog park located within the Wicker Memorial Park known as the Wicker Memorial Dog Park. This off-leash area is well-maintained and gives registered dogs who are up-to-date on vaccines a safe play place with their peers. Owners can watch from a bench, and shady trees keep some areas of the park cool. The park itself also has some trails where leashed dogs can join their owners, as well as playgrounds and picnic areas to make for a furtastic outing for both of you.
Central Dyer is around 48 miles from Westville, but if you’re traveling to Illinois, this is a great place to stop with your pup for some grub. Aside from a few chain restaurants that your dog will go mutts for, there are also some local favorites that will appease your appetite and welcome your dog! Doreen’s Pizza offers a casual environment with sandwiches, pizza, salads, and more, and you and your dog are welcome to enjoy a meal at one of the outdoor tables. Benedict offers yummy breakfast and lunch options and is especially known for its breakfast bowls. Pull up a chair on the outdoor patio and enjoy!
