Central New Carlisle
The small community of New Carlisle offers some wonderful parks for you to explore with your pooch. Bring Fido to Memorial Park in town and take a stroll along the pathway. Extend your walk or jog by following the sidewalk around the New Prairie Little League Complex. You can also take your pup to Bourissa Hills and explore the open fields and wooded areas. When you want to escape the confines of the city, take a short drive about 2.6 miles south to Bendix Woods County Park. This 195-acre park has ponds, trails, and wooded areas for you and your canine companion to enjoy. Dogs are welcome in the county and city parks as long as they’re kept on a leash no longer than 6 feet.

Hudson Lake
The neighborhood of Hudson Lake is about two miles northwest of New Carlisle. If you’re travelling in your RV and need a pet-friendly campground, you can reserve a spot at Lakeside RV Resort in this small community. Bring Fido along and take advantage of small town charm and access to Hudson Lake. Walk along the lakeshore or go fishing with your faithful friend at your side. When you’re looking for a pawtastic place to explore nature with your pooch, drive north about 3.5 miles to Spicer Lake Nature Reserve. This 320-acre area has a network of trails that wander through wetlands, woodlands, and open fields. Remember to keep your pup on a leash in this facility, and when you’re around the lake in town.

Springville
When you want to get out in the wild with your pup, head about about 14 miles west from New Carlisle to the neighborhood of Springville. This small community offers access to two delightful natural areas located just north of town. Take Fido to Galena Wetland Conservation Area and explore the marsh and wooded areas. Directly adjacent to this area, you and Fido can hike through the prairie fen area of Springfield Fen Nature Preserve. Walk along the ridge overlooking the prairie below or wander among the springs through the tall grasses with your pup. Make sure to keep your pooch on a leash and to clean up any messes.

La Porte
About 16 miles southwest of New Carlisle, you and Fido can find some pawesome parks. For La Porte county residents, check out the fully-enclosed, off-leash bark parks at Luhr County Park and at the La Porte County Animal Shelter. Each of these facilities has a one-acre area where dogs can play together. Other parks in La Porte allow you to bring canine companions on a leash up to 6 feet long. Check out Allesee Park with your pup when you want to stretch your legs. This 6-acre facility has a walking track. If you want to explore more green space, head over to Fox Memorial Park and make use of the fitness trail and walking track in this 170-acre area.

North Liberty
Take Fido with you on a puptacular weekend getaway to the community of North Liberty, just 17.8 miles southeast of New Carlisle. Visit North Liberty Town Park and stroll along the Kankakee River. Make sure to keep your pup on a leash that’s no longer than 6 feet. Head over to Potato Creek State Park and explore the hiking trails in this 327-acre outdoor paradise. Dogs are allowed in the campsite and on trails in the park provided they are kept on a leash and don’t enter any buildings. This is a popular site, so plan your trip and make reservations in advance.
