Niles, Michigan is a city of more than 11,000 people that prides itself on having big city amenities without the rush and stress of a big city. Niles is located in southwest Michigan, not far from big cities like South Bend, Kalamazoo, and Chicago. There are several parks and sports fields within Niles, and while it may not have a designated off-leash park of its own, leashed dogs are welcome in most outdoor areas, and there are off-leash parks just a short drive out of town. There are a couple of veterinary clinics within Niles, and just beyond the city borders, there are many more.
When you're not outside exploring Niles and all the adventure that awaits you, stop in at Joey Armadillo's in south Niles for dog-friendly family fun. Joey Armadillo's is a sports bar, bowling alley, and a restaurant all in one. They serve dishes like nacho platters, pizza, sandwiches, wings, desserts, and refreshing cold drinks on their very dog-friendly patio that welcomes dogs anytime. Once you have a full stomach, it's time to go get to know Niles on foot with your dog and all of the dog-friendly activities the area has to offer!
Humans and dogs alike love the Kiwanis Dog Park in Saint Joseph Michigan, and it's only about a half-hour drive from Niles! This dog park includes a separate small dog area as well as benches, drinking fountains, and waste clean-up materials. Kiwanis Dog Park is located within Kiwanis Park which has playgrounds, a basketball court, softball diamond, a skate park, and many other amenities that make it an ideal place to spend a day with your children, human and canine alike! There are also picnic facilities available to rent, which makes it a good spot to host events as well.
The Margaret Prickett Dog Park in Mishawaka, Indiana is only 15 miles from Niles, and it's sure to be a blast for both you and your dog! This park is located within the Prickett Marina Park, which is a 15-acre space that includes a playground, fishing and picnic facilities, a boat launch, in addition to the off-leash dog run. The dog park is a large, open space that has enclosed sections for big and small dogs, and there are also wooded areas throughout the park that your dog will love exploring with you. Visitors love how well-kept and clean Margaret Prickett Dog Park is and come back time and time again to enjoy it.
Central Buchanan, Michigan is six miles and less than a 15-minute drive from Niles. This is where you'll find the McCoy Creek Trail, which is a great place to walk your dog. This four-mile trail was built to give residents of Buchanan and those who visit it a nice place to walk, ride, or run and explore the town, and it has become one of the most pawpular places in the area to walk your dog. McCoy Creek Trail stretches for more than four miles, and it runs through downtown Buchanan, so you and your dog will get to experience the rustic parts of Buchanan as well as business areas.
Goshen, Indiana is a little more than 30 miles from Niles, and in northwest Goshen, there's a dog park your dog will thank you for taking him to! The Robert L. Nelson Dog Park is a large, well-kept dog park with lots of green grass for your dog to run in and a separate small dog enclosure. There is also a pond at this park that dogs love to take a quick dip in on hot days. Dogs must be registered, and owners must provide proof of vaccinations and pay a small yearly fee for access to the park. This small fee goes toward ensuring this park stays as pawesome as it is!
Rum Village Park is a 160-acre natural space in South Bend, Indiana and it's less than a half-hour drive from Niles, Michigan. This park is home to all kinds of wildlife, and it also features a nature center, a disc golf course, pavilions, mountain bike trails, and hiking trails you can traverse with your dog. Dogs are required to be on a leash while they're in Rum Village Park, but they will be so thrilled to explore the four miles of backwoods trails with you that they won't even notice they're on a leash!
