It spans nearly 3 states and stretches alongside Maryland’s Scenic Railroad, a historic locomotive that is still active today.
After a day of exploring the beautiful countryside of Maryland, you can cool off with a quick bite at Queen City Creamery. Their dog-friendly patio is the pawfect place for you and your furry friend to unwind.
Prefer a more secluded environment where you can revel in nature’s beauty with Fido by your side? Just a 15-minute drive south of the densest areas of Cumberland is Spring Gap. This picturesque area is located alongside the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal, which offers a wonderful spot for sightseeing and exploring – as long as your pups remain safely leashed. Looking for a new spot for everyday walks? Visit the C&O Canal National Historic Park, which is just across the Potomac River from the West Virginia state line. This area is full of history and vibrant scenery to enjoy with your best friend!
This neighborhood is especially popular with those who are driven to the college-environment amplified by the nearby university. Pet parents with active pets will love the Frostburg Dog Park located right on the edge of the city! The park features a fully fenced-in, off-leash dog park with separate areas for smaller/senior pups and larger, more active dogs. Members of the Upper Potomac Valley Kennel Club can access the training area or take advantage of one of the many classes offered to help hone your pup’s talents and abilities. Begging for a bite? Enjoy some eats at the Hen House on their pet-friendly patio!
The small and cozy town of Grantsville has less than a thousand residents and a humble history, making it an uncommon tourist destination for most. But for pups who love the outdoors and owners who appreciate the beauty of nature, this is the pawfect destination! Stay at the nearby Savage River Lodge, where pets can join you for a small fee, and then venture over to the Savage River State Forest. With over 54,000 square feet of land to explore, there is no shortage of outdoor activities to enjoy with your furry friend in tow. Just be sure to keep them safely leashed at all times!
Are you the type of pet parent that seeks out the most incredible dog parks to always keep Fido’s tail wagging? Look no further than the remarkable off-leash dog run at Bumble Bee Road Park! A 40,000 square foot space was transformed into a state-of-the-art dog park thanks to local volunteer groups and students from a nearby middle school. Your pup is sure to enjoy the expansive space with a double-door entry system, water stations, doggy bag stations, and more ground than they can cover. This quiet neighborhood is located in Accident, MD – less than an hour away from Cumberland.
Somerset is located just over the Pennsylvania state line, less than an hour from Cumberland, and is situated next to Lake Somerset. Its high elevation makes it much colder than the surrounding areas, which allows for tons of fun winter sports and leaving paw prints in the snow! If you find yourself in Somerset in warmer temperatures, takes a trip to the Jager and Friends Dog Park. The off-leash park has separate sections for large and small dogs and is surrounded by a walking path. Hungry? Treat your pup to a sundae at Bruster’s!
