West Hernando
Your pups will find their happy place at the newly created Pidgeon Park Dog Park and Skate Park on Hwy 51. In addition to a skate park for the kids, your furbaby can run around the large fenced area and play with other pups. There is a separate area for both large dogs and small pups, and parents can sit on a shaded bench and watch their pooch play. There is a doggie water fountain, and doggie waste bags are provided to help keep the park clean. Just north of Pidgeon Park is the largest park in town, the Conger Park. It features tennis courts and two walking trails were you and Fido can get some exercise. The picnic pavilion offers a place to enjoy lunch in the shade and the restrooms are convenient to the parking lot.

East Hernando
In the eastern part of Hernando, Lee’s Summit Park is on Montieth Ave behind Walmart. There is a playground for the kids and a well-maintained walking trail for you and Fido. The small pond attracts ducks and birds, and you and your pooch can admire the view while you walk. If you are looking for a nice place to stay while in the area, Meadow View Farm is a Bed and Breakfast that welcomes small pups for an additional fee. You may also want to check out Brick Oven Pizza for dinner out with your furry companion. The outdoor patio is pooch-friendly and you can enjoy pizza with the entire family.

Southwest Hernando
Eleven miles south of the center of town, the Hernando Point Campground is a perfect place for a staycation, and is situated in the Hernando Point Public Use Area. There are 83 campsites, all with plenty of shade trees, and many offer beautiful views of Arkabutla Lake. You will need to keep your pooch on a leash while you walk along the hiking trails and check out the playground for the kids. There is a picnic shelter where you can enjoy lunch and the beach is great for swimming. The clean restroom and bathhouse make this pup-friendly campground fun for family and friends.

Nesbit
About four miles north of Hernando, pups and their parents can enjoy lunch or dinner at Happy Daze in Nesbit. This is a pooch-friendly family-owned diner where you can enjoy American cuisine and a 1950’s style soda shop. The diner is open every day of the week, and you can relax at the outdoor tables and enjoy your meal. Just minutes from the diner, you can also stop by Velvet Cream – The Dip on Hwy 51. Order a variety of sweet treats and a pup cup from the outdoor walk-up window. You can sit at one of the picnic tables and enjoy your ice cream and Fido will love spending time with family.

Arkabutla
The Dub Patton Campground in Arkabutla is just 10 miles southwest of Hernando and features 66 campsites where you can spend time with your pup and the family on Arkabutla Lake. There is a boat ramp where you can enjoy the lake and a playground where the kids can run around. Several nature trails offer a perfect opportunity to give Fido some exercise and kids can also go swimming at the beach. There is even an ADA accessible pier so the entire family can enjoy the outdoors. The Pleasant Hill Public Use Area is also located nearby, and offers a place to camp and enjoy nature. There are RV sites and picnic tables where you can enjoy meals with your pooch. If you really want to “rough it” head over to the primitive sites and spend quality time with your pup.
