Elon maintains two city parks: Lawrence Slade Park and Beth Schmidt Park, and they're both pawesome places to bring your dog for a walk!

While Lawrence Slade doesn't have an off-leash area, Beth Schmidt Park does, and it's called the K-9 Corner. This dog park opened in 2006, and it was the first of its kind in Alamance County. There are two sections in K-9 Corner: one for active dogs, and another for dogs who enjoy a slower pace. This off-leash park is known for being clean and well-maintained, and it provides visitors with everything they need for a fun trip to the dog park. Your dog must be licensed and vaccinated to visit K-9 Corner. There's also a one-mile walking trail in Beth Schmidt Park, and your dog can join you on it if they're on a leash. This off-leash park is part of Southwest Park, a 513-acre county park. The dog park takes up 2.5 acres of this land, and it includes separate areas for big and small dogs. The dog park also has fresh drinking water for pups, as well as seating and waste disposal supplies. Other areas of Southwest Park have athletic fields and courts, boating and picnicking facilities, and walking trails. Your dog can join you on the trails and other areas of the park if they're on a leash.

The Jiggs Askew Memorial Bark Park is less than five miles from Elon, and you and your dog are both sure to love it! This beautifully landscaped off-leash park sits on two acres of land, and it includes an area for small or senior dogs, as well as a large dog section. During the summer months, there is running water for dogs to drink, but if you visit during the winter, make sure to bring your own. The park is open from dawn to dusk each day, and all first-time visitors much register with Burlington's parks and recreation department.

This off-leash park is only 20 miles from Elon, and this quiet space is often called one of the best-kept secrets in town! APS Dog Park sits on about three acres of land, and it's one large space for dogs of all sizes to interact. There are toys, drinking water, seating, and waste disposal supplies inside of the park. APS Dog Park requires a small membership fee to join, and it's located right next to a training facility with agility equipment and an adoption center.

    The northwestern Chapel Hill community of Ashley Forest is ruffly a half-hour drive from Elon, and this area is home to the Homestead Dog Park. Located within Homestead Park, this two-acre off-leash park includes separate enclosures for big and small dogs. If you visit during the hot months of the year, your dog will enjoy cooling off in one of the plastic pools set up around the park. A five-foot fence surrounds the dog park, and it has a double-gated entry system for increased safety. The rest of Homestead Park has sports fields, basketball courts, and picnic areas, and your dog can join you in these spaces if they're leashed.

Stephen M. Hussey Bark Park provides visitors with drinking water, seating, and waste disposal supplies for their pets. This off-leash park is conveniently located next to on-leash trails you can trek with your dog, or picnic areas your dog can join you at as well.
