Andrews is a small town located in northeastern Cherokee County, less than 12 minutes southwest of Topton. Downtown Andrews is a friendly community complete with quiet and peaceful residential areas. Even though the area doesn't have a large number of recreation spots, it has something that's (arguably) even better: two pet-friendly eateries! Hoppy Trout Brewery and Andrews Brewing Company both invite you to choose from a wide selection of local brews and enjoy classic pub fare with your pooch at the outdoor tables. Leashed, well-behaved doggie diners are welcome! Afterward, burn those extra calories at Andrews Recreation Park, which welcomes leashed pups to take a stroll.

If you're passing through Waynesville and your furry friend needs to stretch his legs, head for the northern part of town. Located about an hour's drive northeast of Topton, the area is home to sleepy residential quarters, shopping areas, and a few drive-thrus where you can grab a bite. Waynesville Parks and Recreation offers many hours of fun for the whole family, furry members included! This expansive park has walking trails, a playground for kids, and a nice, well-shaded dog park. This fenced dog park is the pawfect place to let your pup off-leash after a long ride and get some exercise.

Nantahala National Forest
Are you and your hyper hound looking for a challenge? Head to Nantahala National Forest, where you'll find over 60 miles of trails that range in difficulty to suit both fitter furry friends as well as the most dedicated couch pup-tatoes! Start your adventures in the forest on Graveyard Fields Loop Trail, a beautiful hiking trail complete with waterfalls and caves. Fido will love sniffing out all the flora and fauna along the way! Dogs must remain leashed in all areas of the park. Other activities at the national forest include camping and whitewater rafting, which makes it the pawfect place for a weekend outing with the family!

Mills River
Mills River is a town located at the intersection of Cross Road Drive, Haywood Drive, and Boylston Highway. The town's commercial area features restaurants and shops, but you and your pup will want to make a beeline for Mills River Park. This is a big, green recreation area in the town's center where you can relax in the shade and let your pup play off-leash in the designated dog park. Located at the northern corner of the park, Mills River Dog Park is a furrific place to meet some new canine companions and have a blast! Drinking water and waste bags aren't provided, so be sure to bring your own.

Hall Fletcher
Hall Fletcher is a southern neighborhood in Asheville featuring residential quarters and scenic views of the French Broad River. Enjoy the river walk at French Broad River Park, a facility with gorgeous views along the trails, several playgrounds, and a wonderful dog park! If you want to stroll along the shore, keep your pup on their leash. And when you want to have some off-leash fun with the local tail-waggers, French Broad River Park Dog Area will be waiting for you! The dog park is a small, fenced oasis with multiple shaded spots, water stations, and benches for tired owners to catch a breath while their fur-babies play together.
