Dog Areas in Sylva

1 Trail
9 Eateries

In the backwoods of North Carolina, in central Jackson County, you’ll find the gorgeous incorporated town of Sylva. While one might not expect much from the small and quiet area, don’t let the population fool you. This town is full of friendly faces, and it has plenty of nearby activities as well as a trail of its own for you and your pup to venture through. That doesn’t even take into consideration the number of tasty restaurants to choose from in Sylva, many of which are dog-friendly -- your pup will be free to go absolutely dog wild!

Before you start your food-themed doggy day trip, however, you should prepare by burning off a few calories. That will be easy on Waterrock Knob Trail, a 1.2-mile trail that’s rated as difficult by those who have traveled it. You and your pup will need to be pretty fit to make the trek, but as long as you bring plenty of clean drinking water, and maybe some snacks to stop and refuel with, you and Fido are sure to have a blast. Just bring plenty of doggy waste bags to clean up any messy mishaps that may just take place.

    #1 West Main Street

The first stop on your food adventure featuring Fido should be West Main Street, in the heart of Sylva. Unsurprisingly, you’ll find a delectable restaurant at nearly every turn, but one of the highest-rated just happens to allow your pup to join you on the outdoor patio as well. Lulu’s on Main has a wide selection of international foods to choose from, from their fungi appetizer, which features shitake mushrooms and goat cheese, to their delectable pork belly. Vegetarian and vegan options are available as well for the more health conscious dog owner. Your dog may turn their nose up at the salads, but you’re sure to enjoy them.

    #4 Vance Street

To finish off your trip, and work off all those good eats, your pup is going to want the opportunity to run free a bit -- an opportunity that is perfectly presented on Vance Street in Waynesville, NC. There is where you’ll find Waynesville Pepsi Dog Park, a fully fenced park where your pup can go dog wild having some off-leash fun. There is a separate area for small dogs; however, water is not provided, so you’ll need to bring plenty of clean drinking water for both you and your pup. Just the same, your canine companion is sure to have a ball here -- a tennis ball, that is!

    #5 East Dillsboro

If you’re willing to make a bit of a drive to top off your delicious dog-friendly food adventure, then hop in your car with Fido and go for a ride to East Dillsboro. Your pup will enjoy the ride, and you’ll thank your lucky stars that you made the trip when you enter Haywood Smokehouse. Featuring classic Southern BBQ with sides like homemade macaroni and cheese and cornbread, you really can’t beat the Southern charm of this little restaurant. Even better, Fido is welcome to join you on the outdoor deck as well. Maybe even sneak them a piece of brisket -- we won’t tell.
