Edgar

Directly adjacent to Avenel is the neighborhood of Edgar in Woodbridge, and there are quite a few parks here that you can take your pooch to. The largest is the Regina Street Park, where you will find two baseball fields and a large play area, as well as a natural section filled with a variety of trees and shrubs. The Bucknell Avenue Park is also worth a visit, as this neighborhood park is home to a couple of sports facilities and a playground, and is fully lined by trees on three sides, giving Fido plenty of greenery to sniff about in. Just around the corner from here is the Hillside Avenue Park, which features a large grassy area extremely popular with dogs.

Cragwood – Minue

The Cragwood – Minue neighborhood of Carteret is right next to Avenel, and offers up some pawsome dog walks. One of the highlights of this neighborhood is that it provides access to the Joseph Medwick Park, a large but scenic park with plenty of facilities. Not only will you find various sports fields and courts here, but there are also several picnic groves, two playgrounds, paved pathways, and a nature observation deck that overlooks the Rahway River. Also in this neighborhood is Cornell Park, which has recently been upgraded and now boasts a new basketball court and a new paved walking path.

Metropark

Less than a mile away from Avenel is the neighborhood of Metropark in Iselin, and although this is quite a busy neighborhood, especially during rush hour with commuters, there are a couple of peaceful parks to be found here. The Cooper Avenue Playground is always popular, because not only are there play areas and baseball fields here, but the park backs onto a stretch of woodland that follows along the South Branch of the Rahway River. This neighborhood also provides access to Merrill Park. This 179 acre park is packed with facilities, including playgrounds, sports fields, an animal haven, and meandering walking paths.

Grand/ Edgar

Just over a mile from Avenel is the Grand/ Edgar neighborhood in Rahway, and there are some tail-wagging walks to be had here. Begin at the Waterfront Park, which is quite a new addition to the city and boasts nature and butterfly gardens, fitness areas, a pagoda, and a gravel walking trail that stretches out for a quarter of a mile. Just next to this park is the Lower Essex Street Park. This park also boasts waterfront views, as well as picnic areas and a winding paved walking path. If your pooch still needs more exercise, Flannagan Field is in this neighborhood, and you will find a baseball field, a playground, and a paved walking path here.

Warren Park

About three miles from Avenel is the neighborhood of Warren Park in Perth Amboy, and there is so much for you and your pooch to do here. Begin by taking a walk around the William Warren Park, which stretches out for 126 acres and contains sports facilities, picnic groves, a mini theater, playgrounds and paved walkways. Not too far away is the scenic Willow Pond Park, where you will find a large pond with a footbridge and a floating dock, as well as sports facilities and a playground. Also in this neighborhood is Hopelawn Park, with its baseball fields, playground, basketball court and paved path that takes you right through the center of the park.
