Bernardsville, in years past, was the country destination for the wealthy needing a break from the big city. Many New Yorkers ended up making Bernardsville their home. Today, it has all the small town charm but with a touch of big-city sophistication. The town's only veterinary hospital offers state-of-the-art laser treatment for arthritis and wound treatment.
Bernardsville also has several parks that a person with a pup will appreciate. New Jersey Brigade Area has a beautiful trail through some heavy forest. A wooden bridge takes you and your leashed dog across a sparkling creek. Beware, though -- bears have been known to frequent this park and surprise a hiker!
A safer alternative for a walk in the woods may be had at New Jersey Audubon's Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary. This nature preserve has several nice trails through forest, plain, and wetlands. The rules do not allow dogs, unfortunately. However, people with dogs have hiked there without issue.
A quick stretch with your leashed pup can be found at the very small Bernardsville Recreation Department. This small park has some green space for a short breath of fresh air. Two benches by a small pond give you and your furry companion a place to reconnect and relax.
For a nice lunch, head to Kings Food Market on Morristown Road. This restaurant serves a variety of sandwiches, including vegetarian and gluten-free options. An outdoor table awaits you and your four-legged friend.
