Brookdale

The Brookdale neighborhood in Bloomfield is right next to Glen Ridge, and is one of the best nearby spots to take your pup. This is where you will find the 121 acre Brookdale Park, which is the third largest park in the county park system. Not only is the park home to sports facilities, a playground, extensive lawns and winding walking trails, but it also contains the Brookdale Dog Park. This fenced-off dog park is 1.2 acres in size, with 0.8 acres for larger dogs and 0.4 acres for smaller dogs. Both sections have play and exercise equipment within them, and at the entrance to the park is a dog washing area, as well as doggie water fountains.

Montclair South End

Directly adjacent to Glen Ridge is the Montclair South End neighborhood of Montclair, where you will find a couple of parks that your pooch will love. Begin at Canterbury Park, where you will find a playground and a paved walking path, as well as scenic views of the Nishuane Brook. Montclair South End also provides access to Nishuane Park, another large park that features a playground, tennis courts, and a long walking and cycling path. Dogs are welcome to use both of these parks, so long as you keep your pooch on a lead at all times. Don't forget to bring doggie bags and drinking water with you too.

Ridgewood-Elm

The Ridgewood-Elm neighborhood of Montclair is also adjacent to Glen Ridge, and is home to some pawsome dog walks. For a short, leisurely stroll, head to the park at Lackawanna Plaza. This park overlooks quite a busy part of town, with several benches where you and Fido can relax and soak up the hustle and bustle around you. If your pooch would prefer a longer walk, Ridgewood-Elm provides access to Glenfield Park, which sprawls out for just over 20 acres. There are numerous facilities here, from sports courts to playgrounds, but your pup will love the southeastern corner of the park most. This section has been transformed into a natural wildlife haven, with many species of songbirds calling this area home.

Marcgero

Less than a mile from Glen Ridge is Marcgero in West Orange, a neighborhood that provides access to one of the finest parks in the area. The Eagle Rock Reservation extends out for 408 acres, and sits along the Watchung Mountains ridge line. As you can imagine, there are some incredible views to be had from this park, which can be enjoyed from the park's numerous picnic areas. When it comes to dog walks, the longest one within this park is the Lenape Trail, which is 40 miles long and runs along the eastern edge of the park. This trail also provides access to many shorter trails within the park, and these will take you and Fido through some picturesque woodland areas.

Watsessing Park

About a mile from Glen Ridge is the Watsessing Park neighborhood of Bloomfield, and this is an area that your pooch will really love. Here you will find the 69 acre Watsessing Park, which is home to several different sports fields, a playground, a meandering, tree-shaded walking path and beautiful waterfront views. There is also a fenced-off, off-lead dog run here, complete with benches, water fountains, and doggie bag receptacles. Once you and your pup are done exploring the park, head on over to the dog-friendly Bloomfield Steak and Seafood House for a bite to eat. Their spacious patio offers plenty of seating, and you and Fido are bound to enjoy their fresh daily specials.
