Hourihan Field, where you will find another playground, a few sports facilities, a gazebo, and a short paved path that winds its way to a picnic shelter. Not too far away from here is the Joseph Penniplede Park, with its secluded play area, basketball court, and a paved walking trail that circles its way around the park. There are quite a few trees that line the path, giving Fido plenty of exciting smells to enjoy.

Van Ethel

Matawan's Van Ethel neighborhood may be small, but it provides access to one of the best parks to be found in the borough. The Cheesequake State Park stretches out for 1274 acres, featuring everything from rolling green hills to hardwood forests to a large freshwater lake, which tends to be a popular fishing spot because it is stocked with trout, catfish, sunfish and more. What your dog will love the most are the five marked hiking trails that run through the park, showcasing the best of the park's natural beauty. There are also several picnic areas within the park, many of them quite secluded, making this the pawfect place to spend a few hours with Fido.

Freneau Ave

Freneau Avenue is quite a green neighborhood, and is home to a couple of parks that your pooch will love. Begin at the Gravelly Brook Park, which has a small stream running through it. There are quite a few sports facilities here, as well as a playground and a paved path to ensure you and Fido can thoroughly explore the park. This neighborhood also provides access to Fordham Park, which is a small neighborhood park with a playground, basketball court and a large grassy lawn for your pup to sniff about in. When visiting either of these parks, don't forget to bring a lead and some doggie bags with you.

Cliffwood

The small town of Cliffwood is directly adjacent to Matawan, and boasts some pawsome activities to enjoy with your pooch. Begin at Guisti Park, which is the largest park in Cliffwood and is home to a few sports facilities, as well as a paved walking path. Midland Park is also popular with pups, as this park not only features a playground and sports courts, but also a patch of woodland that is pawfect for a dog walk. Dogs are welcome to explore both of these parks, but you will need to keep your pooch on a lead, and also have some doggie bags and drinking water with you.

Cliffwood Beach

The neighborhood of Cliffwood Beach in Keyport is right next to Matawan, and there are some pawtastic dog walks to be had here. The largest green space that this neighborhood provides access to is the Cliffwood Recreation Area, which is a large expanse of green with a creek running through it. There are several unmarked trails that you and Fido can follow in this park, one of which will lead you to the Veteran's Memorial Park, where you will find sports facilities, a spray park, and a paved path. If your pooch still needs more exercise, head on over to Ross Field, which not only has a few sports facilities, but also a dense patch of woodland, complete with dirt trails that your pup will love.
