Directly adjacent to Cliffwood is the Cliffwood Beach neighborhood in Keyport, and there are quite a few green areas here for you and your pooch to explore. Overlook Park is a small neighborhood park with a playground and benches, while the Veterans Memorial Park enjoys a beachside setting, as well as several sports facilities and a spray park. The Cliffwood Recreation Area is also worth a visit, as this large green space features multiple sports facilities, as well as some scenic picnic spots. Dogs are welcome in all of these parks, so long as they are kept on a lead at all times.

Laurence Harbor

Laurence Harbor

The small town of Laurence Harbor is right next to Cliffwood, and boasts some pawtastic dog walks. Begin at the Old Bridge Waterfront Park, where you will find a playground, a grassy lawn and a narrow strip of sandy beach, complete with fishing piers. There is a 1.3 mile paved trail in this park that Fido will love, just remember to bring a lead, doggie bags and drinking water. Laurence Harbor also provides access to the 1274 acre Cheesequake State Park, where you will find everything from open fields to freshwater marshes to hardwood forests, as well as trails that will take you and Fido through all of this.

Lower Matawan

Lower Matawan

The Matawan neighborhood of Lower Matawan is adjacent to Cliffwood, and while this may be quite a busy area, there are still some pawsome walks to be found here. Oakshades Park is always popular, because not only is it home to a playground, sports fields and basketball courts, but it also provides access to the 24 mile Henry Hudson Trail. The trail is paved all the way, and is shaded with plenty of trees, but still provides scenic vistas of your surroundings. If your pup still needs more exercise, head on over to Memorial Park, where you will find historic monuments, a playground, and picnic benches.

The Pearl of the Bayshore

The Pearl of the Bayshore

Less than a mile from Cliffwood is The Pearl of the Bayshore in Keyport, which is known for its stunning waterfront views. One of the best places to enjoy this is at the Keyport Waterfront Park, because the promenade here offers panoramic views of everything from the Manhattan skyline to the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge. Also in this neighborhood is the smaller Therese Ave. Park, which is home to a playground and a few benches. If you would like to treat Fido to a meal afterwards, McDonagh's Pub is not too far away. This dog-friendly restaurant serves up Irish-inspired dishes, along with a wide selection of cocktails, wines and beers. 

Freneau Ave

Freneau Ave

Just over two miles from Cliffwood is this neighborhood in Matawan, and this is the pawfect place in which to spend a few hours with your pooch. Start your day with a walk along the paved path at Gravelly Brook Park, from where you will be able to see the park's new sports facilities and playground, as well as the scenic stream that meanders through the park. Once the two of you have walked up an appetite, head on over to Eli's Hot Bagels for a snack. There are three outdoor pet-friendly tables here, where you and your pup can enjoy some traditional bagels, with the restaurant's original bagel recipe dating back to 1974.
