About 15 miles southwest of San Antonio, you’ll find Pizza Barn. This restaurant, which is quite literally a big red barn, has earned numerous awards and recognition for its quality pies. Start off with an appetizer – an order of green chile bread sticks, zucchini, or wings. Then chow down on a pizza and salad. They feature dozens of specialty pies. One that might be worth checking out is “The Range,” which includes fresh spinach, artichoke hearts, mozzarella and parmesan cheese, a bit of oregano with a olive oil base. The restaurant is open daily from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Esselmont Dog Park will have your hound howling! This wide-open grass dog park will let your pup roam around without a leash! There are not areas sectioned off, so make sure your furry friend behaves around its fellow hounds. There are restrooms and benches sit nearby the off-leash park. Just remember to bring your pooch some water. Picnic tables and playgrounds are scattered across the park. There’s also a walking trail, if you’d rather go on a stroll with your pup. Remember, though, to keep Fido on a leash outside the enclosed dog park. The park’s hours are 6 a.m. to midnight.

Put simply, Cactus Wren Dog Park is doggy heaven. The park offers you pooch a variety of activities that will make it hard to leave. Firstly, the off-leash park is split up into three sections: one for small dogs, one for larger dogs and another for both. There’s lots of shade. There’s also water, benches and restrooms. After your pup has worked up a sweat, take them to the splash pad just for dogs! It is open daily from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., May 1 through Sept. 30. Just remember, your pooch must have proof of license and immunization. And it’s your responsibility to clean up after your furry loved one! The park is open 7 a.m. to dusk without lights and 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. with lights.
