Split between Clackamas and Washington counties, Wilsonville is a beautiful city only minutes away from downtown Portland, Oregon. Conveniently located near the Willamette River on one side and parks, open spaces, golf courses and vineyards on the other, the city offers a homelike experience and a variety of outdoor activities for visitors and travelers with pooches. It also helps that pet-friendly eateries and 2 veterinary hospitals are located in downtown, or within walking distance from the city center.
When you want to treat Fido to some off-leash playtime, stop by Ash Meadows Dog Park. This is a small fenced area covered in dirt and gravel. The park is a great pit stop on the way to Portland if you need to stretch your legs. Memorial Park is another furrific option, and has multiple walking trails that leashed dogs are allowed to explore. It's also home to a designated dog park, which is bigger than Ash Meadows and features separate sections for small and large breeds, drinking fountains, and benches.
Want to chow down with your hound? The Abella Italian Kitchen in downtown, just a skip and hop from Memorial Dog Park, offers 15 pet-friendly outdoor tables where you and your pooch can enjoy a meal made with locally produced ingredients.
Molalla River State Park is set in the picturesque surroundings of North Canby, Oregon, where Molalla River flows into Wilmette River. This spacious spot features a pet-friendly natural area perfectly suitable for hiking, fishing, or taking your puppy for a relaxing boat ride on the river. Feel free to walk around and explore the walking trails after a set of exercises in the designated off-leash area in the park. Dogs must be on a leash when outside of the designated dog area. The dog park is fenced and boasts plenty of room to run and find new buddies to chase!
Champoeg State Park, nestled on the banks of Willamette River, is located near the former city of Champoeg. This pawpular tourist spot offers a number of outdoor activities. You will find plenty of yurts, cabins, and campsites, as well pet-friendly walking trails to explore with your leashed adventure seeker. The park also has an off-leash area for running and socializing with furry friends. However, you'll need to be careful, because the off-leash area isn't fenced, and is located at the eastern edge of the main park. You'll need to bring plenty of drinking water for yourself and your pup.
Originating from the city center of Newberg, Oregon, South Blame Street runs all the way to the south, eventually leading you to Ewing Young Park and Newberg Dog Park. The dog park is well-known and tenderly loved by locals, attracting dozens of dog owners and pups daily! This clean, beautiful, and spacious area is split in two for small and large pooches. Both areas are fenced, and feature benches and drinking water fountains. If your pup loves exploring, let him sniff and jump on the large oak logs in the area, which can be also used as seating for tired owners.
You will find Mary S. Young Recreation Area on the southern shore of Wilmette River, on the outskirts of West Linn. This is a huge recreation spot with multiple outdoor activities to enjoy with your pooch, including an extensive and well-developed network of hiking trails, picnic and camping amenities, and even an off-leash area to run, play and socialize with other furry friends! The dog spot is naturally spacious and beautiful. However, there's no fence or anything to protect your mischievous buddy from fleeing, so Fido should have good recall skills if you want to play here. Drinking water is also available for visitors, but make sure to bring your own waste disposal bags.
Palisades is an extensive neighborhood to the south of Lake Oswego city center. Featuring both small and big recreation areas combined with quiet residential quarters, the neighborhood also has a nice spot for off-leash parties. Hazelia Field Dog Park is a small, fenced green spot sandwiched between other large recreation areas, including Lake Oswego Public Golf Course and Cooks Butte City Park. Split into two sections for small and large pups, the area features convenient benches and drinking water facilities for pooches and humans alike. The park is usually crowded in the evenings, so if you have a timid pup, you might want to visit in the morning.
