Southwest of Portland is the city of Sherwood, Oregon, with a population of just under 20,000. In 1911, the city's limits only spanned one square mile, and within one hundred years, that number has more than quadrupled, bringing with it all the good qualities of a big city without ever losing that small-town feel people love so much. Sherwood is just over a half-hour drive from the big city of Portland, so residents of Sherwood further benefit from the amenities of a big city while still living in a relatively small city. Oregon is a lovely place to live if you're a dog owner because the state is known for its excellent parks and recreation services, so there's always something to do outside with your four-legged companion!
Although there is plenty to do outside in Sherwood, there are also many great restaurants in the area that have dog-friendly seating, delicious food, and thirst-quenching drinks. One of these restaurants is even named after a dog! Fat Milo's Family Kitchen is in the center of Sherwood, and they have outdoor dog-friendly seating. At Fat Milo's, you can dine on breakfast and lunch dishes like their fluffy buttermilk pancakes, chicken and waffles, sandwiches, soups, and burgers before you head out and enjoy all of the other dog-friendly activities in and around Sherwood, Oregon.
Aloha is a city in Oregon that's only ten miles, and about a 20-minute drive, from Sherwood. Aloha has a great dog park called the Hazeldale Dog Park, and it's a favorite with locals and visitors alike! This park has four separate sections: one just for small dogs, one for large dogs, another where dogs of all sizes can interact, and a fourth section reserved for special occasions. This park is known to host many pet-centric community events that you won't want to miss! Hazeldale Dog Park also has seating, waste disposal supplies, and a water fountain.
In a little more than a half an hour, you can drive from Sherwood to Milwaukie, Oregon, home to the North Clackamas Dog Park. This 1.5-acre dog park is fully fenced in, and it even has a double-gated entry system for dogs who fancy themselves escape artists. This park isn't divided into separate sections for different sizes of dogs, but there is enough room for all dogs to run around and play. The North Clackamas provides visitors with water and doggy waste bags. If you have human children too, they'll love visiting the playground right near the dog park.
Only a 20-minute drive from Sherwood, the Newberg Dog Park in Newberg, Oregon is a must-visit dog park if you're in the area, and it's sure to become a favorite of both yours and Rover's in no time! This park has a section for small dogs as well as another for big dogs, and they also provide visitors with water, seating, and waste disposal items. The Newberg Dog Park is about two acres, and visitors always note how well-kept the park is because those who frequent it take great pride in keeping it in tip-top shape!
Tigard, Oregon is a 20-minute drive from Sherwood, and it's home to over 9,000 dogs! The city has three dog parks to keep all of these dogs socialized, exercised, and happy, and the largest of the three is called the Potso Dog Park. This 1.5-acre dog park has everything you could ever want in a dog park! It's fully fenced in and has a double-gated entry system, big and small dog sections, picnic tables, shade, water, and waste disposal items. The park is closed until 12:30 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays for maintenance, so keep that in mind when you plan your visit.
Another one of Tigard's great dog parks is the Summerlake Park Dog Park in west Tigard, and it's only a 19-minute drive from Sherwood. This dog park is located within Summerlake Park, a 30-acre park with sports fields, playgrounds, picnic and barbecue facilities, and trails. Summerlake Dog Park is about 2/3 of an acre, which is just enough room for your dog to run and play freely without you worrying about losing track of them! Summerlake Park Dog Park also has a double-gated entry system, water, dog waste clean-up stations, seating, and even a shelter for rainy or particularly hot days.
