If you’re looking for a good place to hike with your dog, head to Merritt Woods Natural Area. This lovely natural area welcomes dogs on-leash, and it has a 0.3-mile trail that takes you through a forest filled with native trees and over the picturesque Johnson Creek. If you want to walk a little farther, pick up the Peterkopt Woods Loop Trail at the western end of the park. This loop trail will take you around the subdivision neighboring Merritt Woods Natural Area. Bring some doggy bags and water with you, and have a pawesome time at this park!

Sellwood is home to a furrific off-leash area, Sellwood Riverfront Park. Located 11 miles from West Haven-Sylvan, this off-leash area is right on the Willamette River. Your dog can splash around or swim in the water, or they can run and play on the riverbank. The area is unfenced, so be sure to keep your dog under voice control while they’re playing. Bring doggy bags and water with you, and have a fun time playing here. If you want to get a snack or a drink after you’re done at the park, head to Tea Chai Te. This tea shop has four dog-friendly outdoor tables, and they offer over 100 varieties of tea and delicious miniature cakes and pies.

This park is about five miles from West Haven-Sylvan, and it has an unfenced off-leash area that features a large field where pups can run and play. This pet boutique offers a wide variety of natural treats that your pup is sure to love. They also have fun dog toys and accessories. Located eight miles from West Haven-Sylvan, this dog park has three separate areas: one for big dogs, one for small dogs, and one that’s open to dogs of all sizes. All three areas are fully fenced, and they feature large, grass-filled fields with plenty of space for dogs to play. If all the excitement makes your dog thirsty, water is available in the dog park. Bring a tennis ball or a Frisbee, and have a great time playing in this puptastic off-leash park.

Tryon Creek State Park

If you want to spend the day hiking with your dog, head to Tryon Creek State Park. This 670-acre park welcomes dogs on-leash, and it has over eight miles of hiking trails to explore with your pup. If you’re looking for a short walk, hop onto the .54-mile Maple Ridge Trail, which takes you on a loop around the park’s nature center. Or, if you want to go for a longer trek, try the .83-mile Lewis and Clark Trail. This trail goes through a stunning forest and along Tryon Creek. No matter which trail you choose, you and your dog are sure to have a fun day out at this park.
