Carolina/ Quonochontaug
The Ninigret Dog Park inside Ninigret Park is the local meeting place for Charlestown canines where dogs of all sizes gather to romp, play and let loose. Also called the Charlestown Dog Park, it has an acre for large dogs, and half an acre for small pups. Dogs can sniff around and explore the trees, grass and rocks or hang out by the fire hydrant. Your furry friend won’t want to miss out on the action, so bring her over today. Burlingame State Park is nearby and surrounds the Watchaug Pond. The park also features over 700 rustic pet friendly campsites and plenty of trails to explore. Keep in mind dogs must be kept on leash when in this park.

Town Center
Take your four legged buddy over to Pasquiset Pond Preserve for some outdoor fun. Your pup will love spending some quality time with you as your wander through this stunning space. You have the choice of two trails; the shorter one leads through a grove of large white pines. The longer one guides you through the wetlands and around some ponds. Both may lead you to plenty of native birds to keep your dog’s attention. Also watch for dragonflies and damselflies that live in the area. Bring a leash, since dogs must be tethered at all times. There’s no question about it, your furry pal will have a woofin’ good time!

West Kingston
Just ten miles northeast of Charlestown is the Great Swamp Management Area. Located in West Kingston, this outdoor paradise provides over 3,000 acres of natural beauty and sits next to Worden Pond. Leash up your pup and venture out into the network of trails. You’ll pass through wetlands, woodlands and meadows. Your pup will be captivated by all the wild sounds and smells. A variety of waterfowl inhabit the area, so chances are her ears and nose will be busy. The trail runs about four miles, so your canine companion will be tuckered out by the time you get home. Be sure to bring her some water.

Richmond
If your pup is ready to spend some time outside, pack some water and snacks and take a trip to the Grass Pond Management Area. Nestled in the nearby town of Richmond, this beautiful area is just ten miles north of Charlestown and well worth the trip. The preserve is a combination of wooded hills, wetlands and ponds. Follow one of the trails to let your pup get his fill of nature. Wander through the black oak and white pine forest. Be sure to keep your pup on leash and stay on the trail; some areas are closed for conservation efforts. Your canine pal will love this park.

Wyoming
Leash up your pup and head over to the Carolina Management Area for some good old fashioned outdoor fun. It’s located in Wyoming, just 10 miles outside of Charlestown. Your pooch will thank you for an afternoon spent in such a beautiful setting. Carolina Management Area covers over 2,000 acres and is made up of evergreen and deciduous forest as well as open fields. Let your pup be the guide as you head out into the woods. You may catch a glimpse of a rabbit, squirrel or fox. Keep your pup on his leash since he may be tempted to chase the wildlife.
