Crescent Heights/ Pickens
If you and Fido are looking for a fun adventure, check out the East Texas Arboretum and Botanical Society. The 104-acre park is perfect for your dog to roam around and sniff so long as he stays on leash. The park offers two miles of trails for the two of you to hike, plus a formal garden, a play garden, picnic areas, and a museum. Throughout the arboretum and botanical park, your dog will come across streams that he can splash around in, but make sure to bring water bottles and clean-up bags with you to the park.36

Bel Air
Grab Fido and head over to McAlister's Deli for a tasty bite to eat with your furry best friend by your side. McAlister's makes delicious meals with fresh ingredients that are made to order, and are known for their hand crafted sandwiches like the King Club and the McAlister's Club. They also offer food for vegetarians, including sandwiches and potatoes topped with whatever you like. Best of all, they have a dog friendly patio which welcomes your pup to join you for your meal. If Fido loves a good day out at the park, check out Coleman Park. This pawsome park is most known for holding baseball games, but it is also a great place to let Fido run around and work off some energy. Coleman Park also offers a playground, pond, restrooms, and if a game is going on, the concession stand will be open.24

Gun Barrel Lane
If you and Fido are driving around the Cedar Creek Reservoir and need to place to stop and stretch your legs, then look no further then the Gun Barrel City Park. Located twenty miles out of Athens in Gun Barrel, your dog will love being able to run around the park and explore a new space. The park offers three baseball diamonds, two playgrounds, a soccer field, restrooms, and a pavilion for shade. Take advantage of the 1/2-mile walking path that is also in the park and get a nice walk in before the two of you have to head back into Athens.12

Mabank
Head out to the Purtis Creek State Park eighteen miles out of Athens in Mabank, and a great spot to take your pup. The park offers hiking and exploring, plus it has a great lake where you and Fido can cool off and get some water. While at the park, your dog needs to remain on leash. If outdoor fun had left you hungry, check out Pitt Grill. This casual eatery serves American fare, such as omelettes, po'boys, wraps, Philly cheese steaks, and their famous breakfast pile. Their patio is dog friendly and welcomes Fido to join you for a tasty breakfast, lunch or dinner.
