You should know that if you take a 15-minute trip from Denison, you get to Day Mountain Loop Trail. It is a 6-mile trail inside the  Mount Spokane State Park. This state park is a 13,800-acre area that is meant to be a natural area to play in. It is open for hiking, biking, and camping. This is one of the least-traveled trails in the park so you can run and play without worrying about too many bikes. Come and spend an hour or a day -- it’s completley up to you!

After just a half-hour car ride, you’ll arrive at the Spokanimal Dog Park. It is inside High Bridge Park and has lots of stuff for you and your dog to do. Your pup will love the large fenced in area that is full of new fur friends to run and play with. There is enough room to get out all the pent-up energy Fido has. And don’t worry -- there are plenty of shady places to sit so you can relax while Fido works up a pant. This is the only fenced-in, off-leash park in the area, so Fido will surely beg to come back.

There is a part of the Rails-to-Trails system just 35 miles from Denison, called Fish Lake Trail. This part of the Rails-to-trails network runs through the open forest, around Queen Lucas Lake, and ends up in Fish Lake Regional Park. The original train trestles have become bridges, so you can overlook the beautiful landscape while you walk. It is the same scenery that you would have seen if you have road the rail system in the 1800s!  Each part of the rail system is unique and offers you a view that you may not have been able to see had it not been preserved.

The  Spokane River Centennial Trail is the destination to go to if you want to get a taste of adventure and enjoy the peace of the great outdoors. This is the place where history meets modern times. It is the starting point for your adventure with trails that go both east and west., and was also the site of the 1974 World’s Fair. This trail also  preserves history, since it’s part of the original trail system as well. So grab your dog’s leash and take a long walk that will end where ever you choose to stop. It is up to you to see where the road leads.
