Introduction
BioShock Dog Names in Pop Culture
So, unsurprisingly, much like the first two Bioshock games, your objective is to walk around, uncover hidden secrets and objects, and take down all of the bad guys. It's common to find transcripts during your explorations, essentially hidden audio recordings. One of them was titled "A Dog's Loyalty" and was recorded by Zachary Hale Comstock himself. In it, he says that as a boy, he had a dog named Bill. And that like all dogs, Bill was a loyal friend. That he could have done anything to the dog, including not feed him, and the dog still would have been loyal.
Note, however, that he did not say "forget to feed him." Zachary was a misguided, heartless man, after all. And the overall message in the transcript was a racist one, essentially claiming dogs were better than anyone who didn't fit his description of proper, good, white people.
But this wasn't the only time a dog was mentioned in the game. In fact, Bioshock, the original is most well known for the Little Sisters, essentially young girls who have been genetically altered and mentally conditioned to reclaim ADAM (substance that cause the formation of potent stem cells that give the player different abilities) from corpses around Rapture. To get to them, the player needs to take down their guard, the Big Daddies, and then harvest the ADAM. When doing so, you see a vision of the sea slug found in the ocean that actually naturally makes the ADAM.
But before all of this, the Little Sisters went through a huge range of designs during game development, including insects, a frog with a bottle, and even a dog in a wheelchair. Some avid fans with artistic inclinations have gone as far as creating fan art of the dog in a wheelchair concept, so it's not found all over the internet as a nod to what is by far considered one of the best ideas that never got implemented.
BioShock Dog Name Considerations
It may help to think about it this way: if you have to force a name, then it probably doesn't work. The pairing should work organically, and you should immediately feel good about the name selection. But don't be disheartened. Bioshock does a great job of incorporating a lot of different characters, from the most evil, to the most innocent. And because a lot of the game is based on actual thinkers of the 20th century, we'll be adding them to this guide as well. That should provide an additional angle that most other video game dog name guides just don't have.
