Introduction
Officially the Republic of Bulgaria, Bulgaria is located in southeastern Europe. Romania is located north of the country's border, Serbia and Macedonia are to its west, Greece and Turkey are to the south and the Black Sea is to its east. Bulgaria covers a part of the eastern Balkan peninsula. Through the middle of the country run the Balkan Mountains and the Rila and Pirin alpine ranges can be found in the southwest part of Bulgaria. About one-third of the country is made up of plains with plateaus and hills taking up around 41% of its land.
A varied landscape is not all that Bulgaria has to offer; the country is a great place to source unique names, one of which may be just right for your new family member!
Bulgarian Dog Names In Pop Culture
Life can be a struggle for many dogs living in Bulgaria. Some are homeless at birth or taken in and then abandoned, forced to shiver through the winter months. Other dogs spend their life on chains. The Animal Friends Foundation Burgas, an animal shelter in Burgas, Bulgaria, is one of the few organizations in the area focused on assisting animals in Bulgaria and they seek to help any dog in need.
Such was the case, as shown on social media, when they found a skeletal dog who was hiding in a small village near Burgas. Clearly nervous, any time the dog noticed people moving toward him, he would run away. People were scary to him. Those involved in his rescue said that they could see right away that he was terribly nervous. It was apparent by his injuries that he had been kicked and had been hit by items thrown at him. Rescuers spent time crouching on the ground, whistling at him and offering him food. Eventually the dog not only stopped running away, but began to move toward the rescuers to take some food.
Up close, rescuers could see that his body was sunken and pain was present in his eyes. They concluded that the dog had likely been abandoned. Animal Friend Foundation noted that he had enormous claws, which pointed to the likelihood that he had spent a long time on a chain on mud or something where he could not file his claws.
Rescuers chose to name the pup “Bill” and knew that he needed immediate medical attention. Once at the clinic, Bill had blood and other medical tests to get an idea of his health. It was believed that Bill was around five years old, though based on his appearance it seemed that he had been suffering for much of his life. Test results showed that Bill was struggling with anemia, severe malnutrition and cataracts. It was also found that Bill was practically deaf and blind in one eye. While Bill had a long road to recovery, his rescuers were determined to get him there. After lots of love and care, Bill became a happy and healthy pup who enjoys all of the love and attention he gets from the folks at the shelter. With his health restored, Bill received his vaccinations and is able to be neutered. Bill now looks forward to a forever home and family in Bulgaria.
